What does God look like?

People say they saw bigfoot, they say they see UFO's, they say the see 2Pac, they saay they see Elvis, they say they see so many things. What's different is that angels are messangers, whom are seen to give a message. Seeing an angel is not crazy, it may very well be true, as with bigfoot, the giant hog, and even UFO's. We can't disproove or proove it...

So you are only physical? You don't have a spiritual side?

Well yes... but image generally refers to something physical I would say! Although both the soul and the physical body are made in his image. Also Jesus said if you have seen me, you have seen my father - you cant see the soul when you are living, therefore it must have meant physical. Unless he was talking metaphorically in how he behaved, loving, kind, forgiving etc etc

Does it? I can't tell you HOW many times I have "imaged" a disc. Does that meant I took a photograph of it? Or did I somehow copy it's INSIDES? The Scriptures state that God is Spirit. It never makes a claim about God being Physical. IN FACT, the Scriptures tell us that Jesus is God in the Flesh, meaning that other than Jesus God has NO flesh.

John 4:23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." -NIV

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. -NIV

I do believe that you are correct in your last sentence. Jesus was never worried about the OUTSIDE of a man: only the inside.

Mark 7:14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean.' " 17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. 18 "Are you so dull?" he asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? 19 For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.")
20 He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' 21 For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' " -NIV

By the way...that huge hog is real...UFOs...haven't you just contradicted yourself? UFOs cannot be messengers too? I'd believe a respectable person over a religious fundamentalist who said they've seen an angel any day.

I happened to find a picture of God. Thought it might be useful for the thread.

He looks like a man who has seen terrible evil and greater good than either you or I can imagine. He is the One for whom truth is absolute, unchanging and immuatable: he is in the Real where no opinion or desire can change the fact of who He is.

He knows and loves, through and through, balls to bones.

Such a man you would not recognize on the street, for we cannot instantly recognize ourselves in Him. He sees this and being alone because of it, longs to enlighten and illuminate you to escape the sadness He must endure.

He looks like a man who has been through Hell and found his dwelling place in the Heaven of the human heart.

It was interesting in the film I watched they portyrayed it as everyone recognised him but didnt know who he was it was "Im sure I know him from someone" - so it is possible we could recognise him on the street but not know he who was! - I am unaware if was made by an LDS director, but it did make me smile. As LDS do believe our spirits have already lived with God - I dont think the rest of christianity does though?

It seems to me that few people think that God has an identity, and those that do, seem to think that we were made in his image, whether this is spiritual or through appearance. The only definitive answer that I got was a burning bush, and that was from the Book of Moses, and that does not seem to be "us made in His image" at all.

The human form is quite wide and varied, from dwarves to giants, different body shapes, skin colours, hair colour, appearances, and looks. That's not even mentioning some of the more startling differences, such as polydactly (having more than five fingers or toes), or a numerous amount of other genetic disorders that we have.

So, when people claim to see God, what do they claim he looks like? Is there any other mentions of this at all? I'm not only interested in the Christain version of God's appearance - what do Gods from other religions look like?

The only explanation that I can think of so far is that if God exists, he must be a polymorph, and take whatever form he wishes, which would not be hard in comparison to the rest of his supposed feats.

We can't look upon God. Moses only saw His back parts (or His back) and never totally got his sight back. Paul only saw the glorified Jesus and went blind for several days. But I figure He must look somewhat like us, after all we are made in His image.

If that's what you believe GOD "looks" like, I feel sorry for you. No wonder you are an Atheist: so would I be also if it were insisted with any real authority that this were the case.

Accepting that you personally are not the oringinator of this concept of Deity, why let an extremely limited, childlike imagination and intellect stop you from experiencing the Eternal Absolute, eh?

That would be my question, friend. :)
