What I like about RF

RF is one of the few forums out there where people actually like using their intellect and staying on topic. There are forums that all seem to have topics that derail into meme wars and sexual innuendo. (well, there is @Wirey ) lol :D

That’s what I like about RF and why I always come back. It’s not perfect, but it’s a site that doesn’t let one clique rule over it and ruin thread after thread with its attention seeking bs.

What do you like about RF?

It's story time!

Once upon a time, I was a regular of a somewhat popular forum board that featured neat, dress up avatars. Among its boards were areas to discuss the topic of religion. Discussions there were often interesting, but there was a cadre of individuals on the boards who had particular notions about how things were. They would bully and harass anyone whose opinions differed from their own. For a long time, I aimed to stand up for the little guy and present the diversity of perspectives on the issue. Eventually I got sick of being bullied and harassed myself. The moderation there was virtually non-existent.

I then found this place. One or two of that cadre found this place as well. They got themselves handed a very large can of whoop-*** by the moderators here (I wasn't on staff at the time). After having put up with that cadre of bullies for so long, it was satisfying seeing them run off a site that had proper moderation. And satisfying to know that I wouldn't ever have to put up with their kind of crap if I stuck around. So I did. Then I got on the staff team and get to be one of those folks who makes sure that crap stays away. :D

Sounds like a forum I have in mind right now lol

I honestly have never seen so many people talk about sex non stop...like NON STOP. I like sex but not derailing threads that having nothing to do with it. And there’s bullying and horrible moderation. The mods are bullies too! Lol

I’m over it. I feel good on RF

I like RF. Even though they haven't banned limericks yet, the only forums that fit my tastes more than RF are only frequented by a dozen or fewer posters -- such is the popularity of some of my keenest interests.

But I do disagree with the OP a bit about threads not going off topic. Sometimes I can put up a half dozen threads and not one of them will stay on topic for more than a half dozen posts. I figure it's because so few of us actually read OPs. I sure I don't.

They don’t turn into attention seekers making the threads about them. I should have clarified that lol I see it rarely on here, I have seen that go on sometimes. But a topic could go off topic but it doesn’t turn into a chat thread. This other forum’s owner is upset about it but I don’t think they know how to change it. You change it by having mods who actually moderate. Sadly, adults need more supervision than kids.

What I like about RF is that I can tell someone I put him on ignore and he likes the post that tells him so. Thanks for the reputation boost, I guess. Joke's on you, dear o_O

I mistook your thread at first as an ad for tasty microbrewed beers. Then when I realized my mistake, I kept reading in order to pretend I hadn't made such a silly mistake in the first place.

Is it a forum marketed towards teenagers and college students? If so, it explains a lot. The one I used to use was targeted towards that demographic. The folks who frequented the subforums that talked about deeper topics like philosophy and religion tended to be... well...
I really don't like the term pseudo-intellectual. But I think it's an appropriate one in this case. If nothing else, many had a holier-than-thou attitude. It's that forum that soured me immensely to phrases like "intellectual dishonesty" and "academic integrity." These folks basically used those phrases as alternatives to obvious personal attacks like "you're a liar" and "you're an idiot."

They didn't talk about sex non-stop though. I suppose that's a plus? *laughs*

The vast diversity of people here. Its impossible to get bored with RF. I've been on here going on three years now, and like it better each week. Some of my best friends are on RF. I don't know if that's complimentary to the members I speak of, or just sad for me.:p

Lol I know the forum you’re talking about! But no, I’m thinking of a diff one. The one you’re talking about, I’m a member there but it’s like walking into a high school cafeteria :D I hardly ever go there anymore. Yea there’s like no moderation at all.

I think a good lively debate, even against people we generally agree with on most things, just helps to keep us all a bit more honest in our thoughtful endeavors. Just when we think we've got something figured out, here comes a stringent naysayer to test your conclusions...

RF is great reflection of the scientific process, and a great reflection of the human condition.

RF is a breath of fresh air, and well moderated, unlike another forum I was on where the mods are alt right, sexist, racist bullies.

I am on other fora but this is the best one. Those others are nothing to do with religion or politics &c., though, so there's not really much compare.

What? Me worry?
I have found that if you print out the OP's it looks very erudite and sophisticated on the bottom of your bird cage.

For the most part, people are real here. Genuine. There isn’t this weird competition of who is saying the wittiest one liners that have nothing to do with the topic.

We get it. You are attention deprived. You need every thread to be about you.
