What if Tim Tebow Were a Muslim?

I'd still think he is a pompous bigot and still wouldn't have known how to pronounce his last name until I heard on the radio today.

If he was Muslim then his touchdown runs and accurate throws would be attributed to Allah and his messenger Muhammad rather than Yaweh the God of the Bible and his son Jesus.

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Let's see - professional athlete, no criminal record, opposed to drug use, openly expresses his respect for women, Heisman trophy winner (first homeschooled athlete to earn that award), zero paternity suits or rape allegations (unlike so many professional athletes), raises money for orphanages, works with the Dreams Come True foundation and the CURE Foundation, started the Tim Tebow Foundation, Timmy's Playroom (playrooms at hospitals) as well as many other philanthropic endeavors.

What a terrible guy - surely worthy of disdain!

I'm a Christian and don't feel that way at all. I think your judgmentalism is very telling.

Funny how all the Christians who have posted some how do not see a problem here.

There are ignorant people of all beliefs but some how non-Christians love to paint us all with a broad brush.

What's your take on celebrities espousing or supporting other causes or beliefs? How is this any different from Madonna wearing that little red string around her wrist, or Sean Penn supporting liberal political causes?

A major difference is that Tim Tebow is implying that his religion is right, and all other religions are wrong, about the truth. In addition, many Christians believe that God will punish unbelievers after they die. Some believe in an eternal hell for unbelievers, and others believe in annihilation. Either punishment would be deplorable, and unfair from an alleged being who withholds evidence that would convince more people to accept him if they were aware of it. I am tired of people of various religious claiming that they have good evidence that a certain God exists, and what his agenda are. If a God exists, no one knows who he is, and what his agenda are.

Tim Tebow is not the major issue. The major issue is the truthfulness of the Bible.

I think that Tim Tebow might have a good chance to become a Congressman as a Christian, but no chance as a Muslim in most places in the U.S., and no chance of becoming a U.S. senator as a Muslim, or a U.S. president as a Muslim.

So, regardless of what people say, many of them would consider Tim Tebow much differently if he was a Muslim. Mitt Romney is a Mormon Christian, and millions of evangelical Christians would never choose him over other Republican presidential hopefuls, much less a Muslim. When John McCain ran for president, he said that one thing that he liked about Sarah Palin was that she had the same religion that he did.

If Tim Tebow turned gay, or bi-sexual, and openly promoted gay rights, he would surely be criticized by many of his conservative Christian fans.

Interesting question: What if Tim Tebow were Muslim? - Religion - Salon.com

How would you answer it?

Good athlete. Good person. That's my personal take.

My guess how the public would act....I think he'd be mostly ignored, but a few yahoos would bark up a storm (though they make a lot of noise anyway over silly things).

He certainly wouldn't be seen as a hero, however, as the way he is right now for many.

This. I may not completely agree with how he expresses his faith in public, but he certainly doesn't seem to deserve all the hate he is getting.

Most people in this thread so far have indicated that only a vocal minority would have any real problem with Tebow-- hardly painting with a broad brush. Personally, I think the biggest difference if Tebow were a Muslim is that he would not be hero-worshiped as he is now, even if he was still doing all those other great things Kathryn mentioned.

He would be largely unknown... that is, until that vocal minority started making a big stink about him flaunting his "anti-American religion" around.

I see him getting more love than hate.

Sudden publicity has a tendency to create a wide range of responses from the masses, though, so I'm not surprised he's got his critics.

Millions of Christians consider Tim Tebow to be part of the family of God, the same family of God that they believe they belong to. They would certainly be more pleased if he was a Christian than if he was a Muslim.

When Russia was a part of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Union usually won the most Olympic Gold medals. How many Americans rooted for Russian athletes? Certainly very few. It is human nature to be clannish, and show favoritism, based upon all sorts of criteria, including religion.

I am lost here?

I understood there was a religious class system in America, and lots of schisms, but wasn't aware they separated out the Christian schisms too.
