What if you KNEW there was a God.

How would your life be affected if video evidence was found of Moses parting the red Sea; Jesus walking on water; God using his own finger to write the ten commandments. And furthermore that video was brought to you by Jesus himself with Adam, Noah, Abraham with a few cherubim and some trumpets for good measure.

If this happened, how do you think it would change you? Do you think you would start praying, stop lying, cease from pride and lust? Would you go preach the gospel? Would your political views change?

What I'm actually asking is, honestly speaking, how much of what you do, think and say that is contrary what the bible teaches - ten commandments, beatitudes etc. - is because of your uncertainty about the existence of God and the accuracy of the bible and how much of it is a result of you simply not being willing to live your life differently?
That such a being existed would fill me with horror, it would make the universe seem a much sicker, darker and demented place.
I would reject that monstrous entity utterly.

I would also point out that believing in God never stopped anybody from lying, being prideful or lustful - or for that matter brutal perversions of all kinds.

As somebody else has pointed out, it is easy to be brave now that the being in question is only hypothised. But when eternal torment becomes a reality I'm not sure you will still be so bold.

And on your last point - you are patently lying. Many people have changed their lives after finding Jesus (or Allah, or Buddah etc.)

What if that same advanced society that viole spoke of was capable of creating new human beings atom-by-atom and they were indistinguishable from natural humans? Would the same right to terminate apply?

It is only fair that whatever we can create we should also be able to destroy.

Threats of torture only serve to support my point - the God in question is a monster. Thanks for calling me a liar by the way - nice, very Christian of you. Again that rather categorically supports my point.

So thanks, your God threatens to torture me for eternity and obliges you to call me a liar - what a guy!

Many people who have given their lives to Jesus have been found to be liars, been prideful, lustful and so on - if you don't agree, then you are the liar.

Yes I did call you a liar and you have just proved you are a liar. First you said "believing in God never stopped anybody from lying, being prideful or lustful" and then when I called you out on your obvious lie you say "Many people who have given their lives to Jesus have been found to be liars, been prideful, lustful". So it seems my calling you a liar makes me a truth teller - which is a very christian thing to do:p

And on the threats of torture - however you want to look at it the fact remains that you are kidding yourself when you say "I would reject that monstrous entity utterly.". Chances are you would be a lot more circumspect.

Thanks for proving my point. If you ever wonder why people are atheist - read your last two comments, that's why.

Oh so you wanted me "to be the better person" while you say whatever you want? No chance buddy!
So much for Jesus and turning the other cheek. I did not strike first by the way - you did. So you attack, and then pretend to have been attacked to justify yourself - nice.

So, let me add your third comment to the list of things to read to remind yourself why people are atheists.

No you attacked first. You patently lied about my God by claiming that no one has ever stopped doing evil as result of believing in him. I told you what you said was a lie. You then said I'm a bad christian because I called you a liar.

May I remind you that the same Jesus called other people hypocrites. Being a christian doesn't mean you can't call people out for what they are.

Nice misquote. And nice try, but anyone can read the thread and see that you attacked me first. As ye sow, so shall ye reap.

I did not attack you, I said your God was a monster - you responded by saying that I would not be so bold in the face of eternal torment - which spectacularly proves my point.

Don't you realize that you are endorsing cruelty - and implying that we should accept a cruel god just because?

That is both wrong and insulting to the god you claim to believe in.

Has my God told you that he feels insulted? I am telling you the truth - you have this notion that death is the worst thing that can ever happen to someone. You believe that because you believe there is no life after death. I believe there is life after death and I therefore see this life as a temporary state. I am fully expecting to go over to the other side at any time God deems is right. I really don't understand why you thing my God would be offended by this.

He must be, if he is at all real and respectable.

It is just basic decency.

You are building quite a collection of grossly mistaken assumptions about me. This one is very wrong indeed.

You believe that because you believe there is no life after death.

It is true that I have nor belief nor fear of an afterlife.

No one should fear an afterlife, even if they believe in one.

I feel tempted to believe in you, but that would be cruel of me.

Was about to ask the same. Thanks :)

Why would I not stand up bold before going to hell, when I'm already going to go there anyways?

And who would prefer to spend eternity playing harp with individuals who think that you can take lives at will just because you made them?

I would take it as a badge of honor not to share place with those, divine or not, and gnash my teeth instead.
