What is the True Purpose of Life?

Do we truly take time to ponder about one of the most important questions about life: What is the true purpose of life?

Is most of humanity busy living, enjoying, seeking happiness, or are they actually introspecting and trying to find out the meaning of life? What is the true purpose of life? Why are we here? Who brought us here? What is the purpose of coming here? What should we do before we end this journey?

People go to a supermarket to buy stuff. It is very common. They may actually go to buy bread, but when they enter the supermarket, all the displayed new merchandise overwhelms them. They buy their chocolates, beer, wine and fruits. But at the end of the shopping trip, when they leave and reach home, alas! They have forgotten to buy bread. It happens! It happens very often because we get distracted.

How can we truly find the meaning of life if we don’t take time to ponder, contemplate, and introspect? Some people say that the purpose of life is to be happy – very easily answered – but is it so easy to be happy? People may have all the wealth and all the pleasures in the world, but they are still miserable and unhappy. Do they take time to think and find out what truly makes them happy? Do you think seeking happiness and finding the true purpose of life are two different goals? Or are they one? Is it that when we seek happiness and get happiness, we have achieved the true goal of life, or is it when we find out the true goal of life that we get all the happiness in the world, in fact, do we “become” happiness?

It is a very interesting thought to ponder on: What is the true purpose of life? It requires one to sit silently and think – not browse or read – just go deep within think… And the answers will surely come!

I do stuff
It may sound redundant but the purpose of life is the yearning to live. Most species don’t have the knowledge of their own mortality. They don’t know they will die someday. They are compelled to survive. The individual does not survive but its genetic material is passed on to the next generation. Therefore the individual is driven to reproduce. To ask why would be like asking why do birds have feathers, beaks, and law eggs. The answer to that is simple. If they didn’t they wouldn’t be a bird.

hi.
the purpose of life is recognize god, love him, worship him, do good and obey his command, be kind and compassion to people.
in other words, faith in God and serve people.
according to holy quran, worshiping God and attaining his infinite mercy is the goal of creation.
in chapter 11, verse 119 the all merciful God says:
Except those on whom your Lord has mercy; and for this did He create them;
and also in chapter 51, verse 56, God almighty says:
And I have not created the jinn and the men except that they should serve Me.
proximity to god, prosperity in life and salvation in afterlife and recieve devine infinite mercy.

"What is the true purpose of life? Why are we here? Who brought us here? What is the purpose of coming here? What should we do before we end this journey?"

That's your main question.
We are brought into this world by God. He sent us in this world so that we can prove to him that we are worthy of the paradise. So our purpose is to please God and prove to him that we are worthy by following his commands.

Hope that answers your question.

How? Some feel that God commands them to kill those that refuse to believe. Others feel that Cod commands us to become monetarily rich and successful. Who's to say what God's commands are?

Hmm... youde use your senses. See what's common in all religion?
Spread peace, love, be kind to others and all that kind of stuff. That's something you'll find in all religions. So naturally you are to believe that to be God's commands.

Spirit is a fuzzy term but I can see where you are coming from.

We all give our own lives a purposes as there are many purposes to live for or define ourselves with. We are hear to exist. Everything else is up to us.

You may think there is no mystery to life....but to me there are many mysteries in life.

granted....

I am often puzzled when watching the news.....
what ARE these people thinking?.....when they do what they do

There are a variety of possibilities when it comes to why people do the things they do. Psychology is a very interesting field which can explain some of this if one has the time to learn it all. It is very intense.

the really intense part......
we stand before God and heaven ...and they choose who will continue ...and who gets left behind

Bringing "God" into the answer is effectively useless. People project all kinds of meanings into "God".

At most, it hints that craving for a greator purpose is strongly correlated to belief in a God's existence, which I guess is probably true - but not very useful at all from a philosophical or religious perspective.

and something less....than something Greater.....would be more effective?
