Thanks for the explanation gnostic, that greatly clarifies your position.
I actually can see your points, once you have tackled it slightly different. So, thank you.
I truly don't know enough about Muhammad's life history or rise to power to properly comment on when he acquired the traits you mention.
I too doubt that he, or anyone, was born hating certain people, and that he was likely a of product of nature and the circumstances / decisions that shaped him through life.
My observation was only that it's rare for people to make a 180 degree turn from who they truly are when they assume the mantle of power. More often, the exercise of power reveals their true intentions / nature, however they acquired them.
It doesn't seem we disagree on this point after all.
I get what you mean.
In many ways, you are right.
I think that when Muhammad began preaching in Mecca, he wanted everyone to leave their religions and join his, by claiming he is a prophet.
I think that his resentment and anger grew each time people (pagans and Jews) rejected his claim of being a prophet or mock his teachings. I think that both Meccan pagans and Jews living in Mecca hurt him with their rejection.
He was especially hurt by Jews because part of that he modelled part of his religion with Jewish teachings. He tried to encourage Jews to convert to Islam, by asking his followers to pray in the direction of Jerusalem.
But by the time he was in Medina, he revealed his petty and vindictive nature, not only for his hostility towards Jews by banishing or fighting them, he then tell Muslims not pray in the direction of Jerusalem, but to pray in direction towards Mecca.
That's how petty Muhammad is.
His nature did exist before gaining real political and military power in Medina, but how far back in time, I can only guess.
