What is wrong with smashing the idols?

I can use an idol especially if you're in an emotional state to harass or bully you. Or make you think something is happening when its not sadly people have this for their own entertainment which hurts the heart.

[The idol-worshippers] said, “Who has done this to our gods? He surely must be one of the unjust people.” [Some of them] said, “We have heard a youth speaking [ill] of them, and he is known as Ibrahim.”…

...prophet Ibrahim then raised his ax and started smashing the false gods worshipped by the people. He destroyed them all except one, on whose neck he hung the ax. After this his anger subsided and he felt at peace. He left the temple. He had fulfilled his vow to show his people a practical proof of their foolishness in worshipping something other than Allah.

And therefore Ibrahim (of this story) is an intolerant, bigoted, unjust and unethical person. He also seems a bit dim in believing that somehow you destroy a God by destroying an idol. Its like saying one murders a person by smashing the cell-phone with which one is talking with that person. Go figure!

Such a violent man for a "religion of peace".

What a selfish thing to do.

It's not idols that see you wherever you are, and even know what you're thinking.
There you go. Youre right. People may though. And try to mess with you. However I will note that to leave a message that might seem that way but if you know the person you know a bit of why and its not brainwashin or harassment or manipulation comes with some maturity in the matter I guess.

Story of Prophet Yunus Story of Prophet Yunus/Jonah (pbuh)

The inhabitants of the town of Nineveh were idolaters who lived a shameless life. Prophet Jonah (pbuh) was sent to teach them the worship of Allah. The people disliked his interference in their way of worship, so they argued. "We and our forefathers have worshipped these gods for many years and no harm has come to us."

Try as he might to convince them of the foolishness of idolatry and of the goodness of Allah's laws, the ignored him. He warned them that if they kept on with their foolishness, Allah's punishment would soon follow. Instead of fearing Allah, they told Jonah that they were not afraid of his threats. "Let it happen," they told him. Jonah was disheartened. "in that case, I will leave you to your misery!" so saying, he left Nineveh, fearing that Allah's anger would soon follow. Remember Dhan Nun (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him (the calamities which had befallen him)! (ch 21:87)

Fascinating, after his psychotic rage taken out on inanimate objects he felt all manly and full of himself. What a pathetic little man.
