What the...Egypt female circumcision

That both circumcisions are going to be compared whether people like it or not.

 Multiple posters in this thread have compared them. The general consensus is that female circumcision is a much more abhorrent practice. Do you disagree with that comparison?

If you do, then explain why. If you don't, then we all agree and there's no argument.

Regardless, I don't know why you are still harping on the "they must be compared" point, because it's already been done about 37 times in this thread alone.

That's my take on this too. To compare the two is to trivialize FGM. It is not a mere "cosmetic tweak".

Oh, Paul...you're such a Western man-hating feminist too. How dare you think slicing, sewing, re-slicing and celebrating mutilated clitori and labia is so terrible?

Cuz, you know, it isn't THAT bad now, is it?

i guess god was only kidding when he created the clitoris and the foreskin
:sarcastic:

Hey, circumcision isn't part of my culture, however I don't have a strong opinion about male circumcision, really. You can take up this argument with those who disagree with your opinion.

It does? Religion justifies FGM or are you only referring to male circumcision?

male...

i'm not so sure about the female...
but i wouldn't be surprised if there are those who would twist scripture to justify it being done to women.

Some basic info about female genital mutilation from the World Health Organization.

It sounds like it's primarily cultural, but religion can also play a role in promoting it (which makes sense, since after all, a culture is often influenced by the predominant religion, and vice versa.)

I think my comments have been valid. And it is about intellectual honesty.

I lost count how many times I've asked this:

How do you compare the two practices? The most you've shared is that they have a religious origin. Is that all you've got? Or do only wish to point out this "woman's bias"?

If your argument in a thread about FGM is that women are biased, you're going to have to do a lot better than this. I think we ought to switch the priorities from demonizing female FGM opposers as uncaring of male rights to something vastly more important - ending human rights abuses.

Understood, and I agree that there are some who will use religion to justify just about anything.

On my "Circumcision: for or against" (male circumcision only) thread, some of the responses from females were very nonchalant, go figure, right?...But there is obviously a female bias here, when something concerns them it becomes far more important. ;)
And if male circumcision were remotely comparable to FGM, I'd be just as nonchalant about that. The female equivalent to male circumcision is removal of the clitoral hood, nothing else.

What have your comments been besides "You have to compare both male and female circumcision"? Okay... that's been done multiple times.

Are you suggesting that posters here are being dishonest? Dishonest about what?

I'm still trying to figure that out too. But my brain hurts less when I bang my head repeatedly against the wall.

I'm going for a walk.
