What to Do About Trump? The Same Thing My Grandfather Did in 1930s Vienna.

With Glenn Beck warning about the racist bigot bannon, these are sage words that speak to me as a Jew. And I don't really care what donny's minions say in response. Donny's world is ending, God willing peacefully and soon. http://www.tabletmag.com/jewish-news-and-politics/217831/what-to-do-about-trump

The first, and most obvious, is this: Treat every poisoned word as a promise. When a bigoted blusterer tells you he intends to force members of a religious minority to register with the authorities—much like those friends and family of Siegfried’s who stayed behind were forced to do before their horizon grew darker—believe him. Don’t try to be clever. Don’t lean on political intricacies or legislative minutia or historical precedents for comfort. Don’t write it off as propaganda, or explain it away as just an empty proclamation meant simply to pave the path to power. Take the haters at their word, and assume the worst is imminent.\

I'm doing just that. The KKK, alt right and all bigots mean what they say and say what they mean and they're cheering what is going on now. That's totally sufficient for me.

Then as now, many were amused by the demagogue and moved by his vile vision. Some have perfectly reasonable explanations for their decisions, while others have little to go on but incoherent rage. It doesn’t matter. Voters are all adults, and all have made their choices, and it is now you who must brace for impact. Whether you choose to forgive those, friends and strangers alike, who cast their votes so deplorably is a matter of personal choice, and none but the most imperious among us would advocate a categorical rejection of millions based on their electoral actions, no matter how irresponsible and dim. So while you make these personal calculations, remember that what matters now isn’t analysis: It’s survival.

Exactly 100% correct. NEVER AGAIN

Refuse to accept what’s going on as the new normal. Not now, not ever. In the months and years to come, decisions will be made that may strike you as perfectly sound, appointments announced that are inspired, and policies enacted you may even like. Friends and pundits will reach out to you and, invoking nuance, urge you to admit that there’s really nothing to fear, that things are more complex, that nothing is ever black or white. It’s a perfectly sound argument, of course, but it’s also dead wrong: This isn’t about policy or appointments or even about outcomes. This isn’t a political contest—it’s a moral crisis.

Truth will win. Liars lose. Justice will win. Injustice shall lose. Brotherhood and sisterhood will win. Attempts to turn the clock back by alt right bigots or Islamic terrorists will lose. The future will win. Bigotry will lose. Muslims are my brothers and sisters. Blacks are my brothers and sisters. Hispanics are my brothers and sisters. The poor are my brothers and sisters. Those here illegally are my brothers and sisters.

A fire is gathering force and growing which will sweep away the old world and bring in a new one.

Sigh.

To all of us real fascists and fasco-communists out there, Trump is kind of a joke; but every lib and his dog is going nuts about him. I wonder how they will react when an actual threat comes along.

Oh well.

If you can read this, you are as lucky as I am.
This seems like a relevant article:

http://www.theatlantic.com/national...urnalists-reported-the-rise-of-hitler/254146/

"Yet you had Americans meeting Hitler and saying, 'This guy is a clown. He's like a caricature of himself.' And a lot of them went through this whole litany about how even if Hitler got into a position of power, other German politicians would somehow be able to control him. A lot of German politicians believed this themselves."

Trump by himself is not the problem: the problem is a tightly aligned political party that appeals to a significant portion of the population that is racist, homophobic, mysoginistic, gingoistic, etc. Even though there are many Republicans who are not of that sort, the platform and policies advocated by Trump and the majority of GOP in the House, Senate, and the state governments is a threat--it hasn't been used much yet, but it is still a threat--and if the potential victims are not aware, do not challenge it, do not stand up to the threat, the threat will be implemented.

They might vote for it.
Real fascists come to power because they're popular.

Btw, Trump has his funny moments, but this guy is no joke.
He won. He has great power, including declaration of war.
I'm watching him.

Are you sure?
Just a month ago, the Pubs were widely mocked as a disorganized squabbling mess.
.....that appeals to a significant portion of the population that is racist, homophobic, mysoginistic, gingoistic, etc.
The left so loves to characterize the Pubs this way, but to us outsiders, the Dems are no better. Note that they only recently jumped on the gay marriage bandwagon when popular support blossomed. Bill, Hillary, & Obama all opposed it on religious grounds. And Bill has been responsible for imprisoning more black folk than any other prez in history. Regarding sexism....which party campaigned largely on casting a vote based upon gender?

And I will continue to mock them! Regardless if my mockery is accurate or not. And you can't stop me!

It's true, both sides have demons and both sides suck sometimes.

You know, there are times that I wish I could sit down with politicians that I really dislike and have a beer with them. Example, in this picture, I don't see a repubbie who stands against all that is right in the world (gotta be dramatic, my leftie friends are watchin!). I see a guy who likes to hunt and enjoys turkey... I enjoy turkey... we have something in common! I don't know, just things I think about. Like G.W. Bush seems like he would be cool to just talk to. Same with Obama, Bernie, heck, even Trump himself. The media puts these folks under the worst of lime lights and we never really get to know who they are. Anyway, just a ramble.

Go figure, eh? I wonder when it will finally dawn on the so-called, arrogantly self-proclaimed, "progressives" that we are not their enemy. The simple truth is that they have over-played their hand and don't seem to quite get that we are tired of listening to their authoritarian bluster, tired of their hypocrisy, tired of their synthetic hysterical outrage and look at their reactions to the Trump presidency as ample proof that they are not big on the ramifications of democracy.

I really can't remember how many articles I read about how Hillary had the Electoral College vote locked up, every way imaginable. It was, from many viewpoints, a done deal and the vote counting itself was a mere formality. Now there is endless harping about how the Electoral College is a dinosaur from a bygone era that needs to be put out of its misery all because the favored candidate did not win, proving that even the biggest war chest does not assure the outcome.
