What to Do About Trump? The Same Thing My Grandfather Did in 1930s Vienna.

I wish I had the magic of getting a dollar every time a hysterical post was made related to Godwin's law.
Heaven forbid we label such comparisons as being extreme and their perpetrators as being disenfranchised extremists.

Then you would be the billionaire being blamed for everyone's woes. :D:cool: But on the positive side; You could afford a really big telescope.

It's one of my pet peeves. 99.99999% of the time its a lazy attempt at slander that is inaccurate at best.

We're seeing that now regarding Bannon.
I don't know if he's a racist or not.
But the case being made against him by posters here & by NPR is all smoke & mirrors.
They claim Breitbart is a white supremacist site.
Really?
I've read much there, & never seen this.
(Of course, some wag will chime in to say that I'm one of them.)

Today I'm meeting with some new tenants....a husband & wife who are starting a furniture refinishing business.
He's black. She's white. They both enthusiastically voted against Hillary by voting for Trump.
I'll be sure to tell them that some privileged liberal white guys say they're white supremacist Nazis.
They just love this stuff!

You know, there are times that I wish I could sit down with politicians that I really dislike and have a beer with them. Example, in this picture, I don't see a repubbie who stands against all that is right in the world (gotta be dramatic, my leftie friends are watchin!). I see a guy who likes to hunt and enjoys turkey... I enjoy turkey... we have something in common! I don't know, just things I think about. Like G.W. Bush seems like he would be cool to just talk to. Same with Obama, Bernie, heck, even Trump himself. The media puts these folks under the worst of lime lights and we never really get to know who they are. Anyway, just a ramble.

I wish I could double winner this post. If we were able to sit and talk with them and see them for what they are, (a human being with faults like all of us), we may still disagree with them ,but may also find out they are not the monster that some say they are. Didn't care for a lot of Obamas policies, but my impression of him and his wife is that they are decent people. The Bushes? I have a customer that actually got to work on their yacht one summer. She said they were very nice to her. So yeah, I would very much like the opportunity to get to know some of the ones I disagree with and get a better perspective of where they are coming from. I seriously doubt any of them want to hurt the country.

Here is the thing most folks who recklessly throw the Hitler comparison tend to not realize: it weakens your argument, even if you're right. That is the thing. If you want to categorize or discuss someone in a negative way because you think they are dangerous/racist/bigoted/etc, fine! But show us the numbers. I wanna see transcripts, film, audio; the works! Everything is up for grabs! If you present a clear, accurate argument, you might begin to sway people. However, should you choose to simply slap a Hitler label on them and leave it at that, you will fall flat every time.

Its impatience. The need to pass judgment on someone based on something they heard or read, that may or may not be true. I will refrain from such until he actually does something to merit such ire.

The unfortunate reality is this is a bit of a pipe dream, you know? It is still cool to think about though.

You are right. When I was a child, I had a babysitter that I didn't like. My Hitler reference toward her did not further my case.

But in their own minds, they're entirely convinced that Kristallnacht is scheduled for tomorrow.
And Trump is having "Arbeit Macht Frei" signs printed up as we speak.

Sure, because it is easier to think in black/white. When you limit yourself to two boxes, the choice is much simpler.

Very true. However ,for the historically challenged you might want to translate the German.

Put me in coach!

"Arbeit Macht Frei" is "Work will set you free" and was casted over the Auschwitz entrance.
