No, while there is a "path" from the mouth through the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, colon, rectum and finally the anal canal, each works quite independently on the processed product of the one proceeding. The mouth masticates, the esophagus (and allied structures) swallows and transports, the stomach digests, etc. Each functions quite independently, removal of a downstream structure will have no effect on the function of the upstream structures.
