New article...

Apparently those with no religious affiliation are now the largest religious group in the US

To be clear on what the poll might be indicative of, note this line from your cited source:

"Most Nones believe in God or another higher power, but very few attend any kind of religious service."

That is, atheism (the most irrational world-view, IMHO, and one I once suffered from), is still the minority. Thank God :)

I put out one of these polls a few years ago and thought it would be interesting to see if and how the demographics around here may have changed.

So, which religion do you follow? I'd love to know if there is a particular denomination or church or sect or other specific version of the religion you belong to as well. Were you raised in that faith? Did you convert at some point? Or deconvert perhaps?

Thanks for your input!
From nothing to Non-denominational Christ follower at the age of 28.

My religion wasn’t even mentioned even though it’s the second most widespread religion in the world. Perhaps another time.

Other: Taoism. I'm not part of any organized sect but I do practice it as a religion, not (just) a philosophy. By which I mean I have rituals, icons, augers and other practices.

My parents have always been irreligious but were very supportive of me exploring religious options. I stayed (far too long, regretfully) with Jehovah's Witnessed for a time but left in my late teens. I was irreligious atheist from my 20s until just this past year in my early 40s. Still atheist but no longer irreligious.

I put down 'other religion'. I've been a Baha'i for nearly 34 years. I grew up Christian and reconnected with my Christian roots during my early adult years. I've experimented with Buddhism, agnosticism and atheism.

The poll is interesting so far along with some of the comments on the thread. So far no one has identified with Islam. The groups with the highest numbers so far are Hindus and the 'nones'.

Geographically? Not sure how you measure that. Numerically, obviously Islam.

Christianity - Roman Catholic. Sort of, sometimes. But not really practicing, except when I take my mum to mass occasionally. Drawn to Buddhism, Sufi Islam, Christian mysticism, anything that helps improve my conscious contact with a God of my understanding.

Hinduism is the religion that I follow. This might not say much considering that there are many Hindu philosophies and traditions. So, to be more particular, I follow Paurāṇika Śaivism or ‘Puranic Śaivism.’ What I mean by that is that my philosophy and spirituality are based on a scripture called the Śiva-purāṇa. However, the holidays that I observe are Javanese/Balinese Hindu holidays. Although I do not come from a Hindu family or land, I adopted Hinduism relatively recently (March 2021).

None. Non-religious.

I was a non denominational Christian for many years. I also had doubt for many years however as well.
Up until last year, when I read about the concept of Deism, I ultimately decided I didn't believe anymore
in religion, the Bible or the Biblical concept of God.
That pretty quickly diverged into becoming Agnostic, and finally, Agnostic atheist.
However, sometimes, I lean more towards atheism and sometimes more towards just agnostic.
I would consider myself both however since they are technically two different things.

None. Default Protestant from parents until I had a mind of my own to understand what was being taught (in primary and secondary school) - and as to all other such beliefs after doing some research - so ending up finally as an agnostic atheist.

The original Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven lived and preached by Jesus of Nazareth. The Fatherhood of God and brotherhood of all mankind. With Paul's Christianity the original Gospel message changed considerably.

Contemporary Paganism - Kemetic (Egyptian)

I used to be on the quite reconstructionist side, and insisted that one cannot follow the Netjeru of Egypt without having studied the culture and language in depths... To the extend of repudiating most of the Late Period religious developments as false and "impure" and making fun of Kemetics who can't read hieroglyphs.
However, recent discussions and research of Polytheism and modern pagan movements made me rethink a lot of assumptions. Religions change all the time. All reconstructionist views of the gods, in the end, go back to human experience of the divine and the human interpretation of that experience - so why should the interpretations of a certain era be more valid than others?

I grew up Lutheran and from an early age I was actively interested in religion, dogma and history. My grandfather was a university professor in Christian Dogmatics and my aunt is a high-ranking member of the liturgical council that decides on how Lutheran services are to be held in Germany. So you can imagine that my religious education was probably more scientific than average .
I left Christianity behind at 18... The more I studied and prayed, the less it all made sense to me.

A few years later I got into Egyptology entirely by chance (or by fate?) - and I was surprised to find the coherent theology and ethics that I was missing from Christianity in the ancient Egyptian literature.
Today, I nominally belong to Kemetic Orthodoxy, but I am not an active member in the community right now. I also lean a bit more towards hard polytheism, rather than the monolatric view of my church.
and as I said... My reconstructionist focus has shifted. I still venerate the Gods and Goddesses in Egyptian and largely in their forms of the pre-Dynastic to New Kingdom - but I no longer scoff at Hermetic mages and Isis-worshippers. I am still drawing the line at venerating A/pep but I admit that's a personal interpretation

(and I still make fun of people who can't read hieroglyphs, but only if they pretend they can)
