White South Africans barred from registering on government jobs website

“A registration process on a government partnered youth employment initiative has appeared to exclude white South Africans, sparking criticism from the country’s trade union.”

“The registration criteria on the site require the applicants to be black, in accordance with the BEE definition (Black Economic Empowerment), between the ages of 18 – 34, and South African citizens.”

Unjustifiable.

Discriminating against anyone based on their race, either at the institutional level or on an interpersonal level, is racism. But it seems like some on the left don't understand that; I can't tell you how many people I've seen claim that it's impossible to be racist or discriminatory against whites.

I'm willing to cut South Africa some slack here as long as the oversight is corrected in a timely manner (and hopefully not repeated too often thereafter).

Did you check your source out? Probably not:
RT has been frequently described as a propaganda outlet for the Russian government[11][12][13] and its foreign policy.[11][13][14][15][16][17] RT has also been accused of spreading disinformation[17][18][19] by news reporters,[20][21] including some former RT reporters.[22][23][24]-- RT (TV network) - Wikipedia

BTW, I am opposed to discrimination based on nationality and gender, including the gay and transgender communities. How about you?

So because gays and transgender people face discrimination in other circumstances that makes it ok for South Africa to discriminate?

You missed the point. It appears that you fell for a story from a dubious source. When using an unfamiliar source it is always a good idea to see if any reputable groups support that story. If not the odds are that it is propaganda at best.

I'm going with a minority opinion here but...

We need to know the context. Why was this policy enacted? If there previously has been an unfair advantage to white applicants, a temporary advantage to black applicants could be justified to bring fairness back to neutral.

Such an absurd notion takes some rather jaw dropping mental gymnastics.
At many colleges in the U.S. it is being taught that racism is discrimination with political power, and since blacks have no real political power they therefore can't be racist. I am not in favor of this new definition of racism at all since it only tends to foster intolerance between the races.

Are you sure the SA's did? I don't know, nor do I have the time to try and look it up. Maybe try something other than a Russian propaganda source, OK?

And a quick check on "RT News" and it appears that it is a propaganda source and not very reliable:

RT (TV network) - Wikipedia
I can certainly see why there is concern about sensationalism.

I will say that the Yes Initiative is specifically designed for black or Indian young adults. This is not to say that other opportunities are not available.

The website even says:

"Giraffe is a FREE service that helps all jobseekers find work- regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, work experience or qualifications. If you don’t qualify for YES work placement, or if you’re interested in other opportunities, click on the link below and follow the instructions."

Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) is a racially selective program launched by the South African government to redress the inequalities of Apartheid by giving black South African citizens, whom they define to include black, coloured and Indian people, economic privileges not available to whites.

The intent seems to create an equal playing field which can't be done until those that history excluded are caught up.

Americans be like: "Oh that Russian news is all propaganda!! You should only get news sources from one of the 90% of American media networks controlled by the conglomerate of six American corporations. You know, the stuff you can trust!!"

But yeah, RT is propaganda just as America's news is. So always be sure to compare the other stories on the same topic before coming to any conclusions on such a thing: https://www.google.com/search?q=sou...XLylMKHbnlA6sQ_AUICSgA&biw=1393&bih=508&dpr=1

Or better yet check the YES website itself... or read the Black Economic Revitalization Act's actual text...

I just find it funny the scrutiny that is given to Russian propaganda that isn't given to the rest of the propaganda news agencies out there. :p

No, I didn’t miss the point. You want to change the topic. The basic facts are that South Africa’s Black led government has instituted a program that discriminates against Whites. You want to change the subject, too bad.

Just for you, here’s the same story from other sources which all report the same basic facts:

White South Africans barred from registering with Youth Employment Service

White South Africans Barred from Government Jobs Website

It won't work, it will simply continue a vicious cycle of discrimination by whoever happens to have the upper hand at the time. this type of thing is not the answer.

If you don’t like this source, do your own web search and find ones you like. The facts remain the same: the South African YES program excludes Whites. Stop the pathetic attempt to make it about source when the real story is how South Africa is discriminating. It is a shame you want to shield racist policies from exposure.

Bogus attempt at rationalization. The current White South African young people bear no responsibility for happenings from before they were born. You can’t “fix” racial discrimination with more racial discrimination.

I'm not so pessimistic. There shouldn't be an upper hand going forward if we humans learned anything from the mistakes of the past.

The damages from racial discrimination of the past don't disappear the moment the new generation no longer practices it. Though we certainly like to pretend it does. They're not looking for apologies from young white South African people, they're looking to have the same opportunities as them despite the impact apartheid had on their family's upward mobility, segregational redistricting and SA equivalent of gerrymandering.
