Late upload. I painted this for my grandma just before Christmas. The colouring was pure horror, but I'm still fairly happy with the result. My grandma on the other hand was on the brink of tears, so I must have done something right. :angel2:

I agree with Phil, there are great textures here.

I love it Infi! If I could paint, that's how I'd want my paintings to look.
I didn't know I could paint. I never had the proper training in school, had failed one try miserably some years ago and had been avoiding it until I got a commission to paint ad signs where I had to use the kind of oil paint you use for painting house walls and the like. I was playing around with just three colours and a video projector when something suddenly shifted in my mind and everything suddenly made sense.

This is one of the signs I did:

And here's the whole process from start to finish. Warning, images contain Infi!

Beautiful! Did you do this with her posing or from photo or memory?

She posed for a series of photos. I used the only one that came out well as my primary reference for the sketch. I suck at camera work. So out of twenty or so shots I got only one I could work with.

You can hardly find someone nowadays who is willing to sit still for a live pose. And if you search for a professional model, they're charging $100/hour here. So you pretty much have to work with a camera.

It has been awhile since this question was posed and we did get a lot of new members so this is the thread where you can introduce your talent and maybe we can coax a few of the regulars to post some current or unseen work.
Please explain how long you have been drawing, painting or doodling.
Since I was able to put my hands in paint and smear them on a sheet of paper.
Where did you get your talent from? Was it a family member or was it inspired from someone?
Mum's always been very Arty. She would use fabric paints to make clothing for us, and all sorts. "bread dough" -kind of like play doh, was another favourite of mine when I was younger. You'd bake it to set it then paint or varnish. Dad was a hands-on creator, always building or welding something together. I guess you could say my talent comes from there. They can both sing relatively well too, so music was always present.
What medium do you work with best and which do you enjoy working with more?
Piano. I love my piano. I spend a lot of hours on it. Aside from that though, I'm quite at home with graphite pencils and paper. When I get home, hopefully I remember to upload some pictures.
Could you be an artist for a living or do you just like to keep it as a hobby?
I'm considering making a career of music. As for drawing, I'll keep that as a hobby on the side.
As an artist what other mediums or types of art wouldn’t you mind exploring? What are your artistic regrets?
Perhaps charcoal, our maybe paints, but not likely. I regret that there weren't enough class slots at school to be able to explore art. I had decided on the science/math route.
How much have computers affected your art? Are they an asset or unnecessary? ]
Only as much as being able to upload pictures to show more people. I don't think I could do art on a computer. It'd feel too much like work. I like the physical aspect of pencil in hand, rather than a point and click thing. Having said that, I've never tried it, so I won't knock it too hardly just yet :p

The first two are drawings of the kind of place I hope to one day live in.
The third is a project to work with light and shadow. I'm struggling with the shading on the right.
The fourth is an image that popped into my mind when I read the quote in a book.

This one is a painting of a place in Hurricane Utah, where I grew up.
It is a 16x20 oil painting and I am currently willing to sell it for 30$ if anyone is interested.
