Who on this Forum have you Developed an Improbable Admiration, Respect and/or Friendship for?

So who on this Forum, if anyone, have you been surprised to develop an improbable admiration, friendship, and/or respect for?

I've become rather fond of several posters who don't share some of my core beliefs in some areas -- and sometimes don't share many beliefs at all with me -- but who I rather admire or like for other reasons.

Lovely thread :)

I have developed admiration for quite a few people on here even though we don't share the same beliefs. Such as @Sunstone @Terese @Jayhawker Soule @Kirran @Tumah @Treks @Rival @Epic Beard Man @Debater Slayer

RF made me realize that it's not really the differences that divide us, but it's often the inability to recognize, accept, and respect those differences. Like @YmirGF said we just have to get out of our comfort zone, which isn't always easy!

Too many to name. I mean to say, most of you people aren't even Australians, so I really wasn't expecting too much when I joined here.

Still, the couple of RFers I've met in RL, and the ones I've spent time in chat with seem most like friends to me. As for admiring...lots.

To be honest, this is a tricky one for me because while I admire and respect plenty of people here, and have some sort of connection with them, very few strike me as improbable! Like, it's obvious that I'd think @sayak83 is an amazing contribution to the forum and that his insight, integrity and clarity are beautiful things. It goes without saying that I would be thankful for having got the chance to talk to a solid integrated dude like @Sunstone and to have been able to learn something of the experience of a dedicated, honest and adventurous person like @Lvcifer Invictvs

I suppose if anybody might be called improbable it would be @Sakeenah and @Tumah, both of whom are unlucky enough to be pals of mine. I've found Sakeenah's graciousness and strength inspiring, and really appreciate her openness with me. And Tumah is, as I said about someone else, a very integrated dude, who is quietly just grounded and nice. The dude in the airport in Tel Aviv couldn't help cracking a smile when I told him I'd met up with a dude from Tumah's community (when I was questioned upon departing Israel).

Thank you :)

One friend of mine (Malay woman) used to permit high-fives with her sleeve covering her hand. We could try that?

Interesting, I haven't heard of that before, I follow an opinion that's a bit more strict :) so..air high five?

Look, I'll get a piece of cardboard, trace around my hand on it with a pen, cut out the outline, and put it on a stick. You do the same, and then we'll use those to high-five.

You get used to it.
I would have named you, as well as @Tumah and some others but I just don't think that this is that 'improbable'. Given our backgrounds I think you and I being friends was almost inevitable and given our beliefs, my appreciation of Tumah seems obvious, not that this makes it any less meaningful.

I would say "improbable" simply because outside of RF I would have likely never met anyone here. So here are some who stand out as people that I have communicated with here that I think I would get along just fine with in person. Not necessarily in this order but these folks come to mind; @Godobeyer , @Sunstone , @Quetzal , @Deeje , @Rival , @Revoltingest , @Katzpur , @Deidre . Of course there are others ,but these come to mind right off. And one who is no longer here @Smart_Guy .

Cheers mate! I still remember our discussion on firearms and how you, along with @esmith and @Revoltingest, patiently helped me understand that argument from another perspective. It stands out as one of the more enjoyable and informative discussions for me.

I remember that conversation. Glad it was helpful.
