Why Are So Many Cops Dumb?

A 16 year old kid can learn more about the
law by watching a couple youtube videos
than most cops know. Why can't cops
watch youtube to get a basic education
about civil rights? They don't care.

The 2nd episode in this video is hiliarious.
Cop pulls over guy for holding his phone.
Guy shows cop that phone is in device holding it.
Cop admits he's wrong....over & over.
Now cop says guy was speeding.
Guy says he was traveling 16mph.
Guy asks cop what speed it was.
Cop says "10% over the limit".
Guy asks cop what he speed limit is "20 or 25?".
Cop says "I don't know."

So the speed limit was unknown but the
guy was traveling 10% over it?
Turns out that the speed limit is 30 mph.

U-Haul does business 24-7.
I know. I have a U-Haul dealership.
Much of our business is automated
on the internet.

2 men go to a U-Haul dealer for a truck they reserved.
Cops arrive to challenge & ID them.
Cops say they business is closed.
Cops ignore signs on the trucks saying "Truck Share 24/7".
Cops can't read? Or just don't care.
Cops arrest both men.
Cops get the U-Haul dealer to trespass them.
Cops see the reservation on men's phones.
They don't care.

Are you claiming that dumber people are wiser?
That's been a very popular trope among stupid people for a long time in the US. Carl Rove played it to the hilt to get George W. Bush elected because it was clear to all that Bush was not a smart man. That he was in fact quite stupid. To the point where he couldn't even speak intelligibly much of the time. So Rove and Bush passed him off as being 'stupid-wise'. And of course all the stupid people out there bought it hook, line, and sinker, and ran to the polls to vote for "one of their own" because they all think they are actually the "wise ones", while all the actual smart people that stupid people don't like because they look stupid in comparison, are actually really the stupid and unwise ones.

Stupid people are stupid mostly because they think they're smart when they aren't. It's not that they can't learn, and become smarter. It's that they won't learn because it's easier for them to just lie to themselves and pretend they're smart already. But that only works until they find themselves being compared to an actual smart person. So they've come to disdain smart people, and they try to pretend and claim that it's those educated egg-headed smarties that are really the fools. A lie Carl Rove was only too happy to feed. And that the whole republican party has embraced in spades ever since

There are still many many dumb cops
who think they can prohibit recording
them.

For those interested, these dumb cops
see the populace as prey...

That's been a thing in America long before any of us were born.

Cops go to a hotel room (wrong one) about people arguing.
Woman makes mistake of opening door to talk to cops.
The establish that she's alone, but arrest & charge her anyway.
Cops justify the arrest by lying on their report.
Civil suit for rights violations has been filed.

Never ever open door for cops unless
they show you a warrant first.
(They can legally about having one.)

I recall the IQ issue from a while ago, but recently ran across this article....
Excerpted....

Jordan sued for discrimination but to no avail. Here's what a federal court ruled:

Too smart for police work, "Jordan has worked as a prison guard since he took the test."

@Wu Wei might find it fascinating that even a lowly engineer
would be rejected as too smart to be a cop. An interesting
aspect of the average 104 IQ claim is that this means that
nearly half of cops are below average (100 IQ).
So we're giving a couple hundred thousand below average
intelligence people a gun & a license to kill to civilians.
And this after training that's less than what's required
to be a mechanic, real estate agent, or cosmetologist.
Ref....
Watching Medical Detectives I think the cops are super smart.
However balance. Please Please watch BBC i Player .Go to documentaries Go to A-Z. Go to "S" and select Storyville. Then go to "Murder on a Sunday"
There is a eye witness. There is a confession. You think the suspect is done.
Except his Lawyer Mr Mc Guinness is a genius.Watch until the end. This is best hour of TV I watched for a long time.

Cops aren't the ones doing all the science stuff. And to be a lawyer you have to actually be pretty smart. I doubt most cops would have a hopo or prayer at passing a law school exam.

Cop in uniform & on duty walks into store.
Puts on $140 pair of sneakers.
Walks out of store.
Store employee detains cop for shoplifting.
Cop is fired.
She'll have to be a cop somewhere else.

The employee who detained her is luck
to avoid being arrested or shot for
detaining the shoplifting cop.

Imagine you're a 66 year old grandmother standing
in your front yard.
Half a dozen heavily armed federal marshals
violently arrest you, claiming you're someone else.
They thought you "look like" a parole violator with
a different name & appearance. No investigation
before your arrest. No interesting your having a
different ID. They strip search you multiple times,
& put you "back" in prison.

As federal marshals, the have something better
that qualified immunity that ordinary cops have.
They have absolute immunity, ie, you cannot
sue them.

Not just cops are dumb.
Cop driving along is watching his phone instead of the road.
Cop hits cyclist waiting to turn at an intersection.
Cop tries briefly to blame cyclist for being in the way.
An EMT wants to fix the victim's bike by straightening handlebars.
Problem: EMT knows nothing about bikes.
Frame is cracked, & too dangerous to ride.
$7,000 bike is totaled.
Cops compensate victim for about half of that.
At least the victim wasn't charged with anything.
For those interested....

Parents of woman having mental health crisis call 911.
They'd hoped for medical help.
Cops arrive, cuff her, arrest her, & put her in back seat, to go to jail.
Cops don't bother to shut the door or put her in a seatbelt.
She falls out, & is lying along the road unconscious & dying of head injuries.
Cops are investigating themselves.
$100,000,000 suit filed.

SWAT team wants to execute a no-knock warrant
on a house. They arrive at the wrong house.
Before breaking in, they realize this. They figure
that it's one of the neighboring houses. So they
pick one, despite the wrong address, & wrong
features. Cops break down the door, throw in
flash bang grenade, & hold an innocent family
at gunpoint. Then they realize they picked the
wrong house.
The court ruled they have immunity because
the cops tried a little bit to find the right house.
But they don't have to verify the address.

May well be apocryphal, but with a rock of truth, the requirement seems to be for persons who react quickly to a preset pattern and don't think through the action as a first response. :(
It has it's utility, but as with people who react first and think later, not always a useful way.

The actual ruling didn't just rule against high IQ cops.
The case was about a candidate whose IQ was only 125,
ie, just slightly above average. So police departments
can legally keep their force at average & below average
intelligence.

what i took from it was those in higher authority dont want people who think but want people that do what they have been told to do . thinkers are known to question

Well except that is self-perpetuating in that the higher authorities are drawn from within the ranks until you get to those with political authority which is another can of worms.
