Why be an atheist?

Is it really true that atheists are atheists because they can't stand the moral and lifestyle limitations that belief might impose upon them? Or is that an utter misunderstanding of the reasons why someone would be an atheist? If so, why is it popular to say that atheists are atheists because they don't want to be constrained by the moral and lifestyle standards of believers?

Why are some people nonbelievers of Zeus, Odin or Ra? Is it because they don't want to be constrained by the lifestyle choices of those believers?

'Too much thinking' is synonymous with 'too much truth.' Calling 'too much truth' a bad thing is irresponsible lunacy.

I believe people are atheists because they can't have faith in something with no evidence. Something that's becoming more and more common in the "prove it" society we have. Somehow I don't think that's a bad thing.

Eucharist...you won't be winning any respect with that sort of tone . Instead of discussing, the atheists will simply write you off. If somebody told me I only held my position because I was ignorant, I know that's pretty much what I'd do.

I'm certainly not an atheist because I don't like the theist "lifestyle". In fact, there are so many theists in the world--Hindus, Muslims, Lutherans, Baptists--that I don't think it's possible to group them all together and claim they all have the same "lifestyle". I personally think the lifestyle of being selfless, kind to others, generous, forgiving, etc. is a redeeming aspect of Christianity.

Ignorance is the lack of knowledge.
Stupidity is the inability to gain knowledge.

Ignorance can be fixed.
Stupidity can only be tolerated. Sometimes with great effort.

oh right...being an atheist......because during contemplation of ones existance no rational theory existed with enough measure to hold on to the belief of a higher power that interacts in ones world but is completly elusive of detection and unable to be evidenced.
