Why Can't People Accept Other Views?

Before I say much more, let me just say that I am not critisizing religion, but rather, the way in which some people follow it, without truly understanding other points of concepts.

A friend of mine, offered me the following site as a playful jab.
Admittedly, this is taking advantage of a minority of people, but it's still depressing that the minority does exist in that fashion. Anyone with half a brain can see the gaping problems in the below statement.
One of the most basic laws in the universe is the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This states that as time goes by, entropy in an environment will increase. Evolution argues differently against a law that is accepted EVERYWHERE BY EVERYONE. Evolution says that we started out simple, and over time became more complex. That just isn't possible: UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy. If there were such a source, scientists would certainly know about it. [emphasis added]
I agree that how faith can help... but actually understanding another person's point of view as well, even without agreeing, is possibly just as great. Especially if it helps you to understand WHAT you're talking about.

Life is the only thing I can think of that IS disentropic. But other chemical processes are, too.

Some energy is added to the mix of chemicals and poof, the Second Law of Thermodynamics appears to be thwarted. But when Enropy is complete there won't be any way to shift the energy around.

Scott

Bwahahahaha... I consider myself a fundamentalist, but that is just too good...

People can't accept the views of others because they eat pride-flakes for breakfast (without milk:eek:), and snort powdered pride to get through their day. You can almost see it coming out thier ears.

Seriously, does anybody ever cry at an Atheist's funeral?
I mean, since Atheists have no value whatsoever as human
beings (they're not even human, but only inhuman animals),
since Atheists are nothing but miserable Liars, Cowards
and Murderers, after all, why would anybody in their
right mind weep over the dead rotting corpse, or bone
chips and ashes (that get mixed together with those of
others from the crematory) of a worthless dead Atheist?

And what epitaph do you engrave on an Atheist's grave
marker? "Here lies the only good Atheist, which is a
dead Atheist". What else is there say? Nothing at all.
No last words, no last rites, no flowers, no anything.

Every time an Atheist dies, the world is better off as
a result of that dead Atheist being dead, & its damned
God-forsaken soul burning in the fiery pits of Hades. :)

Which begs another related question, do Atheists cry at
funerals? If so, why? Since Atheists hate God, and they
hate Family, and they hate Country, who are they crying
for? It is true: The only good Atheist is a dead Atheist.

I pray that every Atheist in America attend a funeral for
a loved one this year, and every year until they are dead
and their filthy God-hating souls are roasting in Hellfire.

Well I got sent to the principal for that. She said I was 'discriminating' against her religion. I was only doing what the Bible, God, Jesus and my pastor said! How is that wrong!?
I cannot argue that he is being very Biblical.

Pat Robertson said:
Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history.

Dear old Pat wins this one, since he is not just some pathetic internet troll. It amazes me how idiotic Christians (note: I am not speaking of all Christians) can be. Being a free Democracy and allowing freedom of religion is seen as an attack on Christendom by the far Right.

People actually CAN'T accept other views unless it is compatible with their own experience. It's literally impossible, so there's no reason to be frustrated about it. If you want someone to accept your views, you have to actually make an effort to understand them. Once you understand them, you can communicate how your beliefs are compatible with their own experiences.

If you don't do this, you're just giving them an 'idea' of your beliefs but not giving them any reason to 'accept' it.

I don't wanna burst this guys bubble but the second law ofthermodynamics is an expression of the universal law of increasing entropy ( dS = δQ / T, where δQ is the amount of heat absorbed in an isothermal and reversible process in which the system goes from one state to another, and T is the absolute temperature at which the process is occurring) which states that the entropy of an isolated system which is not in equilibrium will tend to increase over time, approaching a maximum value at equilibrium.
I guess that is strike one with his theory.

Strike two with his theory is:

"UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy"

All he need do is look up in the sky, we the people of Earth call it the Sun and to the best of my knowledge most of the scientists know about it but some didn't get the memo as they were on vacation.

He gets the third strike for being an idiot and not checking his sources to make his lie more believable. If your gonna lie at least make it a good one, throw a couple facts in there and try to convince someone, I think most people with a high school degree know the second law of thermodynamics not that they remember it but surely they couldn't butcher it that badly.

I've kind of gotten the impression that some people don't WANT to accept other view points.

Whoever said that "It's easy to get lost in one's own galaxy" was right.

Sad thing is that a lot of people are closed minded and no mater how much or nice(or even with a bit of anger) you can't get it though there thick head. I do try to accept others view, to a point, if there views go to far then sorry no won't accept.
