Why Did The Mormon Church Become Involved In The Proposition 8 Battle?

Oh, dear...

The LDS has a limited amount of funds that it gains through donations, and the like. It has a limited amount of people whom are willing to do volunteer work in the church's name. Because of this, the LDS has a choice of how it is going to divide it's resources and volunteers in order to further it's own goals.

Sorry. I didn't equate "concentration" with "money."

I suppose the ignore list makes it easier to hear only from those whom you agree with...

I'm willing to have honest discussions. Mestemia made it clear he's not interested. He will be the first on my ignore list.

Now, as for us, I thought we were doing pretty good. I hope you don't decide to take up his shoes.

And, for the record, I've been here quite awhile and have never had anyone on my ignore list. Your claim that I only want to hear from those I agree with is way off base.

Well, interracial marriage was only legalized in Utah in 1963, and Black men only admitted to the priesthood in 1978, so the Mormons have been on the wrong side of civil rights most of this century.

At last, something we can agree on.

I also mentioned people, too. Your church only has a certain amount of people, whom it can direct towards furthering it's agendas. Concentrating it's people on politics means that those people are not helping those in need.

Most of the last century too, reading the post.

OK, I concede. The Church doesn't spend ALL it's money and ALL it's people on humanitarian work. I guess the real thrust of the issue is: why should it?

And the LDS are the authorities on scientific research?

LDS have many brilliant minds in the sciences, yes. Do we claim to be authorities? No. As far as I know, there is no absolute concensus of whether human sexuality is driven by genes, environment, or a combination. Most likely, and I say this as a non-expert/non-authority, it is a combination.

Why do yo ask?

My guess is because your comment came off as arrogantly proclaiming that if it is not LDS Doctrine that is matters not anything else.

Although it did seem that way to me, I suspected that it was not an intentional thing on your part.

Because the commands of Jesus were all about helping the poor and downtrodden, and he didn't say a thing about political involvement.

Jesus was very much a political figure.

We also have a history of prophets meddling in politics in the scriptures.
