Why didn't god stop Super Storm Sandy?

I also have the prerogative to reply whenever and to whoever I please, right?

Sure. But when challenged to explain your position, you can:

(1)rise to the challenge, OR,
(2)beat around the bush trying to avoid it.

Else, one would conclude that you did not have any meaningful response to the challenge.

This exchange itself is meaningless. Please answer the questions I posed earlier if you would like to engage me.

You are well within your rights to refuse to. I will leave it at that.

Just as soon as you answer the question I asked about your motive. Else, one would conclude that your motive is unmeaningful.

And again, what good do all those supplies do what they're blown away, drowned, or burned up?

If no one ever rebuilt homes where something once destroyed them then no one would ever build homes anywhere. From floods in the plains, to mudslides and earthquakes in the west, to hurricanes in the east, nature does its worst and people rebuild. We do the best we can with the resources we have. not everyone has the financial resources to rebuild as optimally as possible so they do what they can, with what they have and hope for the best, like most of the human race.

You sir, for you to bandy about "stupidity" and chastise people who have suffered and lost everything in this tragedy are cruel. Flat out. People died in this storm. Are you to call them stupid next for I'm sure you could come up with something they could have done better according to you that would have saved their lives. At a time where we should be offering a hand and a heart out to people you are offering scorn. Stuff a sock.

So you're theory is that people should not prepare for a hurricane because their home could flood and they will lose the supplies?

Why don't they build cement dome houses in tornado zones? Why not avoid building homes on sand bars or at least build homes raised off the ground more and able to withstand the wind?

Those mudslides in the west, most often they're caused by a previous fire that killed the brush and left the land exposed, why don't people go out and clear the brush when it gets too thick? Because they're too busy watching TV to get off their rear end and make the world a better place, that's why. It doesn't take financial resources to go out and do some work in your community every other Saturday.

Not everyone has the money to rebuild as optimally as possible? So it costs the country less to just rebuild and rebuild and rebuild over and over again cheap homes in the same dangerous locations than it would be to build stronger homes in the beginning that can survive a tornado or hurricane?

Hey, let's go out for a walk (during the hurricane) and see the damage, bring the dog.

Stupid or not stupid?

I'm saying that to sit here and critique **** now is not appropriate. To call people stupid who barely got out with their lives when you know nothing about them is not appropriate. To whine and act as if you have all the answers and that everyone else is all a bunch of dumb ignoramuses for not building "appropriately" when people are carrying their babies through the streets with no where to go is not appropriate. Instead of acting like a whiny know-it-all heartless person the appropriate reaction in cases like this is to just care. Can you manage that? Can you care? Because you certainly don't act like it.

I know nothing about them? I had an apartment in Gretna (New Orleans) when Katrina hit. I know more about them than you do.

Why are people carrying their babies through the streets? Oh, because even if they did have a couple boxes of pop tarts and bottled water they probably got tired of eating the same thing so they went out to look for what, free McDonalds?

How exactly would you have them prepare?

Why don't they build cement dome houses in tornado zones? Why not avoid building homes on sand bars or at least build homes raised off the ground more and able to withstand the wind?

Why don't you hop in your time machine now and explain this to the 1960s developers who built the developments that got flooded? While you're at it, look up "infrastructure."

I'm sure you do this all the time, and are not just saying it to portray yourself as smarter and morally superior to suffering disaster victims. I'm sure of it...

A vicious Strawman. The climbing death toll is from people drowning in their homes. This is the sound of your ego masturbating.

Know nothing about them personally. You seem to want to lump everyone together. As if everyone that is now homeless and lost their homes somehow deserved it for not being "prepared". People walked through the streets with their children with no where to go because their homes were a pile of rubble...not because they were looking for McDonald's. My gods man...are you that out of touch?

Takes one to know one?

How to prepare for a hurricane? Are you saying it's not possible to get bottled water and dry food?

All the homes destroyed were built in 1960's? I will look at your proof of this, you have some right? Oh, and hurricanes have been hitting New York for millions of years, they're not something new.

You're sure I do this all the time? And I'm sure you just blame everything on God all the time as well.

People drowned in their homes? You mean the ones who lived in the low lying areas that were expected to flood?

Once again, stupid or not stupid?

I know nothing about them personally? I have a friend who lives in Jersey, he, his wife and three kids have been staying inside and playing marathon Monopoly for days. They're eating dry cereal and chips and drinking warm soda. They're not walking the streets looking for handouts and they're not blaming God.

Several posters have tried to explain to you that water makes dry things wet. You seem unable to understand this.

That would be 1960s on the Jersey Shore, 1950s on Staten Island, and much older (1930s and before) in the Rockaways. I don't intend to present "proof" for your deliberation, I'm not in a contest here. But for NYC properties, here you go, do your own legwork: ACRIS: Online City Register

I don't believe in gods. So no, I do not blame them either.

You have the good fortune to not be elderly, sick, disabled, or in a situation where you must leave but have nowhere to go. So you presume that everyone else has the same good fortune. That is a self-centered, childish, and idiotic conclusion.

Once again, stupid or not stupid?

Once again, you know why you're doing this... And if you believe in god, then so does he. Your natural meanness and need to inflict your ego on others is astounding.

Well, isn't that nice, their house survived. They were luckier than some others. Turn on your tv or go looking through some pictures and see the devastation for yourself. Not everyone got to stay in their homes. Not everyone has homes left to stay in. Supplies or not...if the homes are gone, so are the supplies. Yes, even the damn poptarts. So when are you going to climb off your high-horse and finally shut it?

I have a friend who lives in Jersey too. She, her husband, and three kids left their Sayreville, NJ home when the water was waist-high on the first floor, which took less than five minutes. Her 6-year old slipped under twice. They then walked 4 miles to her father's home, in the hurricane, with the clothes on their backs, leaving a flooded car, home, and all possessions behind. They were prepared with food and several cases of distilled water, which obviously helped them a lot...

Oh, so everything in all of New York and New Jersey got wet? No homes had any dry spots whatsoever? I don't know the exact figures but I would say that most of the homes in New York and New Jersey remained completely dry inside.

Also, when bottled water gets wet it's unusable? Pop tarts come in sealed wrappers. Soda cans are sealed too.

The homes were built in the 60's, 50's, and 30's? Here is a list of hurricanes and tropical storms to hit New York City back to 1800. Believe it or not New Yorkers knew about hurricanes even in the 30's.

You don't believe in God or gods so you don't blame them? Uh, this topic is "Why didn't God stop Super Storm Sandy".

Only the elderly, sick, and disabled died in Sandy? Not true, one young couple was out walking their dog and a tree fell on them. Another young lady was out walking around and got electrocuted by a down power line. They probably wanted to see the damage.

You assumed that the dead are only the elderly and sick who couldn't get out but that is not the truth.

My natural meanness? You're the one with the problem. Nothing ever gets fixed because of people like you.

Right, your theory is that when you have two days notice that a hurricane is approaching you should do nothing to prepare because you could still lose your home and the supplies would be wasted.

The people on TV are just like you.

So, you're advice is to never buy supplies for a hurricane?

Why couldn't they go stay the night in a hotel a hundred miles away? Or two hundred miles away? Because they didn't think it would be this bad. Well, they accepted the risk.

Also, you said the water was waste high on the first floor, sounds like they had a second story home. If so, why wasn't the water and supplies kept on the second floor?

Even if the distilled water got wet how is it unusable?

Let's see, which supplies to buy. Sump pump? maybe 2? or 3? Generator? maybe 2? A full tank of gas and maybe 10 six gallon gas cans full? Food and water for a week? or 2? or 3? Have all tall trees near the house cut down? Board up all the windows? Buy a rowboat and life preservers?

Evacuate? And those with no family or friends to go to? Move out to a hotel? for a week? or 2? or 3? a month? or 2? or 3?

And yet who is not living paycheck to paycheck?

Who can take off even a day or two of work to do all this shopping and spending with no money?

It is impossible for most of us to 'cover all our bases'. It's impossible to know in advance exactly what will happen. Tree through the roof? Water in the basement? Loss of power? Flooded and debris covered roads? House completely crushed and washed away? Wind damage, water damage, long term lack of supplies and power...

You seem to think that people are all knowing and all powerful.

Life itself is a risk. Bad **** happens to good people who are trying their best each and every day.

Beyond that, so many of us who would like to move, relocate CANNOT do it. How easy is it do you suppose for most of us to just 'up and move'. And if the entire populations of coastal areas just decided to up and move, where do you suppose they would all go? And who would employ them?

What do you think his criteria are?

Well..... I know I'm only English, but over here we (mostly) like President Obama, and our television news teams are saying that the storm has somehow made a big enough difference to give him a six point lead.

Do you think God wants him back in the White house?

A 100 mile drive and a night in a motel would be about $110-150.
