Why do disbelieves hate the word disbelievers

Of course I have. However, each of those holds at least one rational position, as there really isn't any scenario under which the range of beliefs that can be classified as 'theism' meet the requirements to be defined as rational.

I know what you mean. I just tend to look at it more holistically. My wife is quite rational with some things, and not with others. So is she a theist?

If you told me a person is 100% rational, I'd suspect they were a fictional character.

So, it would seem that the idea that we kuffar have being called kuffar is a combination of doctrinary lies and the self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts that comes from teaching that people should perceive disbelief as offensive and then going on to insult people by calling them disbelievers.

I guess making disbelief a capital offense figures into that somehow as well. People tend to react unfavorably to being threatened with death, particularly when the motivation is so arbitrary and hypocritical.

Yes, my wife is also a woman ;)

More seriously, I am certainly not arguing that anyone is completely rational, I am not certain such a creature exists on this earth. I am only speaking to the nature of one specific position on one specific issue, and not even one that would make most people's day to day top 100 in terms of importance.

Yep, get your point. I just felt the need to try and tweak your nipples (metaphorically). Since you seem to have a sense of humour, I'll simply tip my hat.

Also kinda overkill. I mean to say, we're already going to be tormented for all eternity. You can't let us have a few years with sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll first???

Interesting discussion. I have found myself disliking being called a disbeliever in the past because I don't consider myself to be one. What has been known to bother me is people who consider you to be a disbeliever simply for not believing exactly they way they do. In that respect, I can imagine some people taking offense.

So u take offense when people say u dont believe in Allah, Prophets etc.
Isnt that stating a fact.

Disbeliever/kafir simply means one who does not believe islamic beliefsystems(Creator, Hell, Paradise, Prophets).

For example iam kafir in hinduism, i dont believe in their thousands of gods, i dont believe in their fastings, incarnations and so on.

Same with christianity and judaism.

Yes, that is true.

Yet many of us have been warned by Muslims not to call ourselves, kuffar because it is such a disrespectful word.

There is no contradiction in there. It is just a combination of two facts that highlights what the Qur'an is like.

It makes no sense why they hate it.

They dont believe in it so why does it bother them?

Personaly iam proud kafir/disbeliever in judaism/christianity/hinduism/buddhism/atheism because i will never believe in their doctrines.

Correction title: why do disbelievers hate to be called Disbelievers

I don't think "disbelievers" is a proper English word but slang just like "unbelievers." I've only hear/seen these words online, though. In person, most put disbelievers into the category of atheists thinking that all disbelievers don't believe in a creator and/or deities.

The word has many complications because it doesnt describe what the person (-er) is not believing in. It's assumed, say on RF, that we are talking about Abraham religions but not, say, Pagan ones.

But, I'm a disbeliever of Thor just as I am of Allah and just as I am of, I don't know, Krishna.

I am a believer of my ancestors, believer of my family, and believer of the spirits.

So maybe people don't like "disbelievers" because the word can completely generalized a whole set of believers who just dont believe in a creator.

I'm with most here - I don't feel anything much being called "disbeliever".

Just to humor the OP, however, I tried to dissect it. Maybe some take offense because the moment you use a term like "disbeliever" or "unbeliever" you are simultaneously asserting the supposed "correctness" of your belief and informing the other party that their lack of belief therefore makes them "wrong" in this way? It carries with it quite a bit of implication, I suppose.

I don't hate it all. I am a proud disbeliever.

Assuming of course that God is the implicit object of disbelief.

Because it's used as hatefull word by many scholars.

As you used "polytheism" as hateful calling to Shia.
