I constantly see this in movies and video games and in general conversation what is the reason for this ? Is it just a simple Hatred of Christianity or something more ?

Something less. Indifference.I constantly see this in movies and video games and in general conversation what is the reason for this ? Is it just a simple Hatred of Christianity or something more ?
What about when someone stubs their toe or drops a cub of coffee?I constantly see this in movies and video games and in general conversation what is the reason for this ? Is it just a simple Hatred of Christianity or something more ?
I admit, I'm guilty. BUT it is nothing to do with a hatred of Christianity, it is more to do with it being a common curse, which I've picked up on.I constantly see this in movies and video games and in general conversation what is the reason for this ? How else can one get a non religious to invoke holy names in times of duress and crisis instead of those Goddamn heathen utterances?I constantly see this in movies and video games and in general conversation what is the reason for this ? I think it is mostly habit and not because of hatred… but ultimately inspired by the adversary, Satan who does hate YHWH. We never hear someone taking Buddha’s name in vain.I constantly see this in movies and video games and in general conversation what is the reason for this ? It's funny how they never take Buddha's name in vain, nor Muhammad's, nor Vishnu's......
Mark Twain said people used it when he was a kid. It's just easy to say I guess, especially with H as the middle name. My friend got scared and uttered, "Jesus Murphy!" That made me chuckle. Supposedly swear words help alleviate pain. Who knew?I constantly see this in movies and video games and in general conversation what is the reason for this ? I dunno. It's funny how they never take Buddha's name in vain, nor Muhammad's, nor Vishnu's......
Yet such people are seldom Christians so it's not as if they are crying out to their God or whatever

Most of the people you hear saying this are Christians. Steven Pinker gets into some of the psychology of swearing here, but the basic gist is that profanity needs shock value to serve its intended purpose, and this is usually best achieved by tapping into people's feelings of offense (e.g. religious profanity) or disgust (e.g. profanity related to bodily functions).I constantly see this in movies and video games and in general conversation what is the reason for this ? Why would Christians Take Their Gods Name In Vain ?Most of the people you hear saying this are Christians. Christians do it so much that it became part of the culture and some non-Christians picked it up, but it loses a lot if its purpose in a non-Christian audience.
My impression is that it is just not usual to teach people to care very much about using Christian expressions of wonder, surprise or strong emotion. They are taught independently of actual religion or beliefs, and avoiding their use can be socially cumbersome.I constantly see this in movies and video games and in general conversation what is the reason for this ? It amazes me that porn, the least Christian movie genre, almost always has a woman (or several of them…) moan “oh God”.
Then again, I never watched Buddhist porn. Are they different?
As it happens I've cried "oh god" on occasion, not in any way a call to a god
