C.S. Lewis compared God, or at least the Word/Logos of God, to the Tao.
Now, why does God not talk to us now, you ask?
Well, why don't animals talk to us anymore? It's because on a primal level, we've lost the sense of belonging in the natural world. Why does God talk to us anymore? Well, he could, but we'd have to be prepared to listen to God through three main sources:
- Dreams
- Symbols
- Other people
Dreams are a very real one, we can sleep and awaken with a new idea.
Other people are a key way God speaks to us, but we overlook this, because we think that God only appears in clouds or pillars of fire. This is incorrect. God speaks to us all the time, although it's a matter of testing what is really being said.

So what about the last of mine? Symbols? Well, funny story. I was working at Amazon and my sister calls me one night asking for me to go to the store and get chicken. But not just any chicken, she wants pre-baked rotisserie chicken. Only it was a different place than all the others, and I had passed it somehow. She finally calls me up and says, "sorry, I don't need it, if it's gonna take all night to find." The next day at Amazon, I'm shelving, and I discover a movie called (wait for it...)
Wild Goose Chase.
The point is, just as humans are cut off from the Tao, and can't talk to forest creatures, so also, we are cut off from directly seeing a conversation with God as what it is.
