why is being gay forbidden ?

In alot of the major religions being gay is a sin. Now , this makes zero sense to me , because first off there is no reason and second gays are born that way , so did God create them just so they can burn in hell ? I have heard the reason is that gay sex spreads Diseases , but so does heterosexual sex. So why do you punish people for the way they were born ?

I'm bisexual, so I am hardly endorsing this.

The Romans and Greeks felt homosexuality was irrelevant if you had a Woman who gave you children too, hopefully sons. Forsaking women would be unthinkable in that society. You *had* to have a beard, even if you didn't need to be in the closet.

I went over it in another thread, but it basically boils down to a few conceptions of gender segregation that evolved over time. It doesn't make sense anymore, and shouldn't, because the idea of gender segregation is more and more becoming an outdated concept.

The Abrahamic religions in particular appear homophobic, which I attribute to homophobic trends in the cultures which produced the original texts. Religious homophobia is just another form of bigotry, there is really no excuse for it.

My understanding is that religions try to establish a type of social order and in many cases, those religions establish order through family values. Sex is seen as a means for procreation rather than a lustful sport. So if one is having sex outside of marriage for purposes other than the creation of family, it is/was considered sinful. Sexual promiscuity causes all sorts of social problems so there were laws created for adultery too. Homosexuality was seen as 'dirty' and unnatural because it does not lead to procreation and was thus considered purely lustful.

In my religion, homosexuality was considered just as bad as heterosexuals having sex outside of marriage. I think this problem can be solved by allowing homosexuals to be married!
