Why is it necessary to believe?

Many religions claim that in order for you to ascend to heaven or whatever sacred paradise beyond the living world, you must believe and follow the word of god/allah/zeus/etc...

I just have a few questions.

3.) Why is it imperative that we believe what god and his holy scriptures say? Why can't we just live a good life, live a moral life? Why won't god accept us if we're athiests yet we didn't kill, steal, rape, etc...?
I'll try # 3:
God’s commandments are address to God and our fellowmen and we must strive to accomplish both what you cited is just in relation to your fellowmen and your reward is what they give you; respect admiration and even idealization although you avoided the coveting, adultery and fornication part. you may receive reward for what you have done, mind you that If you transgress these one and get cought you won’t even have a reward from your fellowmen.

What you ask is “Why won't god accept us if we're atheists” the answer to that is that you want the reward for the good things that you’ve done for other people, If you are an atheist you don’t believe that there is God and that he promises entrance to His kingdom, to be accepted into God’s Kingdom you must love Him above all things and to love your fellowmen as you love yourself.

Oh I see, so atheists don't treat other people as well as religious people. Gotcha.

Did I write that? As far as can see what I said is that if you do good works/deeds for other people and atheist really do, they get a reward from other people but what you asked is: Why can't we just live a good life, live a moral life? Why won't god accept us if we're atheists yet we didn't kill, steal, rape, etc...? I thought that I was clear on that and that God acceptance to His kingdom is God’s reward for obeying His commandments

Deu 6:5
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
Deu 11:13
'And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the LORD your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,

These are the teachings of a great teacher; now these are from an even greater teacher:
Mar 12:30
And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This [is] the first commandment.

Atheist and doubter are in disobedience of this the most important of all. How can you claim your right to acceptance to His Kingdom?
Your claim is that you atheist “we're atheists yet we didn't kill, steal, rape, etc...? but doge part of this commandment, what about the coveting, adulteries and fornications that transgression against your neighbor?

As long as I don't things to harm or hurt another person, why should god care if i believe in him or not? Your god seems pretty insecure and pitiful if he had to create people for the sole purpose of worshipping, loving, and obeying him. It's pathetic.
BTW i try to do good things because they are good things to do, i'm not usually looking for a reward, and if you are you're not sincere in benefitting others, you're just kissing god's ***.

Well I am sure that my God is not your God and He has no interest in you, IMO God isn’t the God of every Tom, Dick and Harry ever, so I have absolutely no problem with your opinions, I reply to this for pure curiosity. What it concerns you that God is not impressed with your good deeds? You don’t believe that there is a God why do you care about His characteristic?

If it works for you. Knock yourself out! I don’t understand your preoccupation with a non-existent God approval or rejection. We worship Him because we know Him.

Allowing yourself to know God Is an amazing discovery. one that can be experienced in this Lifetime ... Not acknowledging God will also bring about an amazing discovery... but you have to die to make that one!!!

Can you name one person on this planet that does not believe in something. Everybody believes in something even if its believing in nothing.

Everybody believes 'something' .

Yeah, i think you missed the point of the discussion. This wasn't about belief, it was about why a diety would require belief.

Yeah, you missed the point too. I'm not looking for the approval of someone or something I don't believe to exist in the first place, I'm looking for a reason as to why a god would require your belief in the first place.

Basically Let's say god sets down some rules so that you could reach heaven:

1. Don't intentionally do anything to hurt another's body or feelings.

2. Have respect for yourself and others.

3. Worship and believe in me above all other gods.

What kind of doucheb*g, insecure god requires number three? Isn't he basically saying That you could be a saint for godsakes (using it to mean a really good person) but if you don't believe in me, oh well, you go to hell. Now that doesn't seem a little f*cked up to anyone?

I am afraid that is so, God commands that you live a moral life because you love Him and promises to reward you with eternal life, if you do not believe in Him. Can He influence your life if you don’t believe Him?
1. Don't intentionally do anything to hurt another's body or feelings.
Humm! Would this work? Would you be able to control you self-improvement instincts?

2. Have respect for yourself and others.
Can you put others in preference of yourself? Can you respect others more than yourself?

3. Worship and believe in me above all other gods.
How many Gods do you worship at this very moment? Is money, your job, social acceptance more important than God?
And you conclusion have a good once over already, if your set your own rules and break them you simply make new ones that justified your actions after all you are your own man a mighty God and a rule onto yourself you are your own God and you are before God, we behave/ act in accordance to what we believe.

I just have a few questions.

1.) If someone lives in some remote part of the world and has never, ever heard of god or Jesus or any religion for that matter but lives their life with reverance for others and good morals, does that mean that that person would go to hell when they die? Wouldn't that be unnecessary? Unneeded?

2.) Wouldn't that god/supreme being(s) be cruel and unreasonable if they did this? Wouldn't that god be thought of as incredibly wrong to deal out eternal punishment just because you simply don't believe in him?

3.) Why is it imperative that we believe what god and his holy scriptures say? Why can't we just live a good life, live a moral life? Why won't god accept us if we're athiests yet we didn't kill, steal, rape, etc...?

Ok did not read every page so if someone already answered the same way sorry. Speaking strictly from a Christian view.

1. No. If you live in a remote part of the world and never heard the name Jesus Christ you can still pass judgment and be granted entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. The fact that you lived with a good heart while alive will help you a lot.

2. Though the answer to your first question negates much of the second question I will answer anyways. No. God as the creator has the right to destroy anyone (your soul) at anytime for any reason He sees fit. He told us what to do to avoid this if we choose to willfully ignore it then we pay the consequence. Cannot speak for other religions though mind you.

3. There is nothing saying that an atheist is undeniable doomed, unless that atheist just flat out wants to be doomed. Though that is God's decision in the end as pointed out by answer #2. Again I say living a good and moral life could do nothing but help you in that regards.

If there is a biblical god, and he does have a reward/punishment system for belief/disbelief, then the reason must be personal to god. If we try to think about why he wants people to believe in him so badly to the point where he burns people who don't(or asks for them to be stoned), the only reason we can think up is jealousy, which is what he calls himself when describing the 10 commandments. So jealousy it is.

I believe that the idea of punishing those who don't believe makes the argument look weaker. If you have to try and scare someone into believing something, or have to try and eliminate other faiths and people of those faiths, it just goes to show how unconvincing your argument must be. The agenda seems so man made. The only reason for hell to exist is to scare people into believing, or because god enjoys punishing people who die without worshiping him. Sounds nice.

No.

Among other things.

Absolutely.

As far as I'm concerned, yes.

3.) Why is it imperative that we believe what god and his holy scriptures say?
It's only imperative if you actually want to do what God wants you to do.

Why can't we just live a good life, live a moral life?
You can, and it will get you a lot further than a professed belief in Him that is accompanied by a life lived in such a way that you come across as a hypocrite.

Why won't god accept us if we're athiests yet we didn't kill, steal, rape, etc...?
I guess it all depends upon what you mean by "accept." I believe He'll accept the best you have to give Him. Since you don't believe in Him, it's understandable why you wouldn't particularly care about giving Him anything. If you did believe in Him, though, you'd probably want to do everything you could to show Him that you love Him and appreciate all He has given you. Where more is given, more is expected.

(In case my answers strike you as being incompatible with Christianity, that's because I'm not a traditional Christian and I believe somewhat differently than most Christians you may have come in contact with.)

It's unneeded but necessary that people burn, better them than us.

2.) Wouldn't that god/supreme being(s) be cruel and unreasonable if they did this? Wouldn't that god be thought of as incredibly wrong to deal out eternal punishment just because you simply don't believe in him?
That' why it's just best to have Him on your side.

I wouldn't ask questions, it might trigger some psychosis in him that could cause Him to act unfavorably towards you. Just obey.

Since heaven and hell only exist in the minds of those that believe, I don't think it really matters.
