Why is Public Nudity Wrong or Immoral?

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
There's nothing wrong with public nudity as long as you have a butt as nice as mine.

I suspect your covertly preparing to hawk elegantly framed multi color butt prints of your derriere along with a certificate of authenticity for a modest fee. Am I riiiggghhhttt?? (cause thats what I would do.) :p

Actually, I like to keep Andy Warhol as far from my butt as possible.

If I could actually tan then I'd hit a nude beach to avoid lines.

Unfortunately, I'm 100% Irish. I burn, and then it's straight back to pale glory :(

A friend of mine forgot to put sun block on a part of his anatomy that he simply did not think would burn. It burnt. Bad.

He was not a happy camper the rest of our trip to the hot springs.

I personally would not like to see too morbidly obese people in the nude. I even cringe at seeing hugely fat guys on the beach with just their swimming togs on, and a huge belly spilling over the front of the togs down the their thighs.

I'm part Scottish so don't even know what a tan is :D

I don't particularly want to see anyone nude, but I would rather have people of all shapes and sizes do it, than feel people are being restricted for a stupid reason.

But, that's just my opinion.

in adam and eve days it was fine for them to walk around naked because they was pure they didnt do anything wrong but after they sinned they noticed they was naked and they had to put on clothes which led to the rest of us having to and supposed to wear clothes in public

Nothing would be wrong with it if we did it all along. It would be completely natural. People have been conditioned to think a certain way about things... it's called, "Someone being successful in controlling your thoughts and beliefs." :)

There is nothing fundamentally immoral about being naked. A cultures attitude towards nudity will have many contributing factors. In areas where climate dictates that people wear cloths for warm and protection then people will become habituated to that and find nakedness to be strange. That strangeness and the associated emotions which come from dealing with the unfamiliar may result in it being labelled immoral through association to negative feelings. As has already been mentioned exposing oneself also includes displayings sexually related body parts which no doubt contributes to this.

Conservesly in places where the climate is generally hot its advantageous to wear as little as possible but I can't imagine that covering oneself up is as likely to be as much as a problem and would be seen as a curiosity and little else. To go back to the comment about exposing sexual body parts it seems that breasts are really considered that much of an issue but genetalia are often still covered so maybe there is a fundamental desire to hide or protect ones genetalia which is understandable.

There is also the issue of disguist. There are some people who I just don't want to see naked if I can avoid doing so because personally I don't find them pleasant to look at but obviously this is subjective.

It was decidedly made so by consensus in primarily European society starting in the dark ages, and reaching a peak of uptightness in the Victorian era. It is an immature, and outmoded convention, IMO.

Or have we? Sometimes it seems to me that much of the point of current young female fashions is to disturb males to some degree.
"Current?"

I think a lot of it is to shock and get attention, but generally in public people dress fairly acceptable, well around here at least.

Wearing short skirts and low cut tops, seems normal these days, whereas a hundred years ago, it wouldn't have been.
I imagine a hundred years ago a discussion of short skirts would have seemed remarkably similar to a discussion of toplessness today.

In cultures where nudity or semi-nudity is normal people just don't connect it with sexuality or see it as provocative. It's a cultural tabu, not a natural one.

In the Caroline islands an exposed thigh can get you arrested for indecent exposure, yet 'proper business attire' for both sexes is a sarong and sandals -- with nothing above the waist.

I don't believe it's wrong or immoral. I suppose that our society has constructed certain boundaries of appropriateness that it would be odd to transgress: for example, shopping at the supermarket, or going to a business meeting I think would seem odd if done naked. And I know many faiths, including my own, believe that it is disrespectful to appear in a place of worship nude, which I can understand.

But I can't see any reason why people shouldn't be naked at the beach, or puttering around their yard, or in parks, or working out, or dancing, or other such artistic and recreational activities.

Mostly I think people need to get over the whole nudity taboo. So you see someone else's junk. Whatever. It's just skin. We all have bodies. If God didn't want us to be naked at least some of the time, we'd be covered in fur and our junk would all be inside.

The thread question is the problem. "Is Public Nudity Wrong or Immoral." It leaves no other options. There are obviously a lot of people who feel it is neither.

I didn't read it as a two-option question. I read it as "is either of these correct or not" which could leave a "no" answer to both.

I don't particularly want to go shopping and see naked people everywhere. I have no problems with nudity, in the right places and I don't feel that in the shopping centre, or walking along the street is the right place. I also wouldn't want my children to be at the beach and have naked people sitting around him.

There are places to be nude, it doesn't need to be everywhere in my opinion.
