Ah, my poor Brit friend. Itś too bad that if your leader came to America, it would mean nothing to us. In fact, most Americans wouldn´t even notice, or care.
Londons mayor began the exchange of niceties by a highly derogatory op ed in a major newspaper. So, you don´t like the response, too bad.
You worry about the cost to your country of this visit, when you support an entire extended family of inbred royals in massive luxury, in perpetuity, and they do nothing more important than go to horse shows ? Your concern seems misplaced.
Another cost is the paid lefty demonstrators being bused in from all over the UK, to howl and whine, you ought to worry about that.
I have to tell you, that in the final analysis, as an American whose ancestors came from England in the 1700ś, I couldn´t care less about your opinion.
We are infinitely more important to you than you are to us. Get over it.
In real terms the Royal family cost the Country very little if anything at all.
many years ago they exchanged the many estates that they owned for an annual income. the country has done extraordinarily well out of that deal.
The Prince of wales and his family is supported by the income from his own estates.
The queen supports a number of junior royals out of her own estate income.
Those that are supported by the state are in compensation for official duties.
The public royal estate is funded by the nation, but would need to be so Royalty or not. However The queen does use her own funds for many Projects including the rebuilding of much of the fire damage at Windsor castle.
I rather doubt the President ever dips into his own pocket for anything and seems to have put most of his family on to the Pay roll too.
It is true that the UK has become less reliant on trade with the USA as much of the traditional supply chain and trade has moved to China India the far and middle east. the USA is becoming more and more redundant as a trading partner... It has also become so to its own people, who now buy goods sourced elsewhere.
