Why Krishna is Blue

Stormcry

Well-Known Member
Vishnu is depicted blue in color in puranas and since Krishna and Rama are declared as incarnation of Vishnu so they are often shown blue. :)

I don't think that puranas depicted him in blue.

Read what Bhisma said about Krishna’s color.....

In 1st canto of Bhagavata Purana :
Bhisma praises krishna at the time of death - " त्रिभुवनकमनं तमालवर्णं कृष्णं "

In Sanskrit,Tamal means - 1) Dark barked of Tamala-Indian-tree or

2) Dark Tobacco

So krishna was never blue, he was bluesh Dark ( ofcourse Indian Dark as he was indian :D ) Hari

Ratikala ji, there's one fault in that pic.

Devaki or Yashoda weren't black. They were white ( Indian ) :) And Krishna was a Dark divine as like a rain cloud...

I never said that Krishna is depicted blue in purana but Vishnu is and so due to this Krishna is sometime painted blue in pictures, murtis etc. :)

Devakikrsna

There is the most beautifull story which accompanys this Deity .....

it is said that Sri Devaki so missed her baby Krsna , that allthough krsna was being cared for by yashoda mata Devaki was so fearfull for his wellbeing , that one day she decided she must set out to find him , upon finding him and seeing Krsna to be grown , she did not fully recognise him . Krsna of course recognising his divine mother Devaki asked her do you not recognise your Devakinandan ? ...Devaki replied that she only knew the sight of her beautifull Balakrsna , ...so Krsna to please his divine mother took the form of Balakrsna and took place in her lap .

so here remains the glorious form of DevakiKrsna , ...krsna seated in the lap of Sri Devaki :namaste

begging everyones pardon for the oversized picture , it was only small when I posted it ?

I think Krsna wanted to appear bigger in praise of Devaki :namaste

and just to show his beautifull face dark as a rain cloud :namaste

Though I am a Saiva, from what I have been taught, Vishnu is the color of a BLUE (not black) LIKE a water filled cloud.

However, this is a DIVINE color of blue, there is no match to this color in the material world, not even a water filled blue cloud, nor sky, nothing. You have to see it to know it.

So in my "opinion" Krsna is blue. He is blue because Krsna is said to be the same color as Vishnu sleeping on the 1000 hooded Adishesha, a divine blue color.

Ratikala ji...... Pranam

Giving you suggestion, please do not insult others for your own misunderstandings about them.

As per my information, no any Hindu sees supremacy of white color. The history says it's the work of europeans.

Reminding you, I didn't say anything about supremacy of white color. I just said that Yashoda or Devaki were indians of white color. Where's supremacy of white ? May I know how you misunderstood me...

jai jai this is the devine colour blue :namaste

I think this is the color ratikala! Very close.

Here is also, IMHO, the actial color of Krishna, see below. I feel very confident. Of course the actual electric "darkish" blue is, as I believe, a DIVINE BLUE which has NO material match, no rain cloud, no sky, nothing can match the actual description of that "starling" electric blue. Nothing, no words. Only "eyes" that see it.

But this is "close". It is also my favorite painting of Krsna.

with all due respects I am not insulting you , ....I am simply pointing out a contradiction in your statement ...first refering to Krsna , you quote the Bhagavata Purana ;..." त्रिभुवनकमनं तमालवर्णं कृष्णं "In Sanskrit,Tamal means - 1) Dark barked of Tamala-Indian-tree or
2) Dark Tobacco......

then you say ....

''So krishna was never blue, he was bluesh Dark ( ofcourse Indian Dark as he was indian :D ) Hari
''

''indian dark '' .....''as he was indian''

which I hope all can agree with .....

then you say ...

''Ratikala ji, there's one fault in that pic.
Devaki or Yashoda weren't black. They were white ( Indian ) ....''

firstly , and I point this this out very politely indian people are as you say above 'dark'
..some are a little darker than others some are a little paler , ...this is very beautifull , but it is not white .

As per my information, no any Hindu sees supremacy of white color. The history says it's the work of europeans.

there has been too much talk on this site of the ethnicity of indian peoples of who is or what is Aryan , who is superior .... I am simply saying I do not want to hear it , I do not want to hear anythig which causes division of a people ...indians come in many degrees of hue from light to dark all are equaly beautifull why the need on your part to call them white ?

simply to my mind where there is division often there comes supremacy .... we do not need to go there .... that is all .

I bow down to the holiness of this beautiful picture which I believe is painted with the colours of love, compassion, feeling, empathy and humanism.

:namaste

I am sure the Lord will relish it just as Rama relished the aged Shabari's half-eaten apple and later as Krishna relished Sudama's small packet of rice. :)

Love and regards.
