Why do ID proponents assert the existence of only one Designer? If you were to accept ID, would you not have to accept the possibility of multiple Designers?

Because there can't be more than one. "Intelligent Designer" is a codeword for the Christian God.

What Is , IS.
without a begining and an end.
In between is everything; icluding asking such questions.
When the mind gets tired and exhausts itself of asking then one also IS.
Then there remains no question and no answeres.

I think ID proponents would probably admit that possibility in a tentative manner if it would further their agenda.

That's a very good question, ID does nothing to actually prove that the creator is the God of Abraham, anymore than it was Zeus or Gaia or Stan. So, even if somehow ID were found to be true, it's no evidence at all that Genesis is an accurate account of that creation.

It's the reason why I think ID is simply another name for Christian Creationism.
