Why would an atheist would support the Christ Redeemer statue?

More of a serious effort at secularism, however, just might be of true help.

They say to fix problems faster you need to have a mix race. Brazil has the mix race. Some people say Brazil is murder capital of the world. How come things are going slowly?

Okay, but why would an atheist would support it if they are against it?

What does 'support it' even mean?
Not wanting to tear it down isn't support. If you said 'we are going to build a statue of Christ for a cost of $10 million which is coming out of the national budget next year' then people would choose to support it or not.

But otherwise? Leave it alone. It's historically significant regardless of the religious aspects, just like the pyramids are.

If you invest 10M into taking it down. It could bring back x 10 times more. I believe people would want to move to the nation. And, maybe the nation can become international.

Brazil has 200 million people and terrible wealth distribution. It has not really overcome illiteracy. Our Constitutions have an average lifespan of a whooping 28 years. Our Republican systems have an even shorter average lifespan. Our grasp of moral and ethics is one of the worst of the known world.

It is incredibly hard to make it work, and it shows.

Still, I have to wonder what you are comparing us to. Do you somehow know how things would turn out if we had less miscigenation, or more? Ethnic miscigenation is very much a good thing and one of our most exquisite resources, but it is hardly a warranty of prosperity.

Honestly, in the book "The Colder War: How the Global Energy Trade Slipped from America's Grasp" I read that Brazilians told each other 50 years ago that the next country will be us. So, where is it? What is the problem?

I guess I would want you to pay upfront instead of making odd promises. Do you have 100 millions of dollars in cash to pay for its removal? We just might consider it then.

Brazil has no particular need of immigrants.

Very few people would avoid Brazil because of the existence of the Christ Redeemer statue, I would think; there is no shortage of better reasons to avoid it, public safety and economic prosperity (or lack of same) perhaps chief among them.

As for "the nation becoming international"... I guess all nations are by definition international already.

We are darned fools with delusions of grandeur, clearly.

Really? Would you really consider it? Or, are you being sarcastic?
Why would I need to choose one or the other?

How would I even have the means to decide?

I have no great aversion to receiving 100 million dollars. I must assume few Brazilians do. And I reserve the right to decide whether that is worth destroying the statue only after you have convinced me that you can make good of that promise of cash.

Well, I'm sorry but the next "Big nation" is probably going to be an international nation. Right? Please.
Regards.
Ahah... are you truly implying that we do not have enough of a mix of ethnic groups to be "an international nation"?

As for being a Big Nation, is that even a good thing? If so, why?

I suspect atheists are more indifferent than anything else towards the statue because they don't follow a doctrine that tells them to be judgemental ******** to everyone who believes or worships differently.

Well, to the extent that Brazil leaves something to be desired in that regard, it is because of our shameful social and economic disparities and the resulting tensions.

It is not like our borders are closed to immigrants.

Can you imagine Brazil without that icon? Can you imagine Russia with that icon?

You'd think they would want to be smaller, not larger. I mean, at that size everyone can see them!
