Women and Vaishnavism?

What is inside of this picture?

on one hand it is compassion for others , on the other it is looking into the soul of another and seeing the all pervasive lord .

At that moment, there is no man and no woman. It has nothing to do with mundane romance.

Om Namah Sivaya

thank you prabhu ji ,
at last some one is seeing beyond the romance aspect , here is the example of one embodied soul seeing the true nature of another embodied soul ,

looking beyond the temporary body with love and compassion .

you are correct in your coments here , there is so much more to krsna bhakti ,

thankyou again

I'd really like to know what.

Sure, there were some amazing stories in the Mahabharata, Ramayana, Vishnu Puran, Srimad Bhagavatam etc (not that I actually read any one of these from 'cover to cover' but I knew all the stories from oral tradition).

I guess...to answer my own question to you - 'there is so much more to Shiv Bhakti than the romance'....but that's just the 'fun part'.

To be totally honest, I didn't find Vaishnavism either mentally or emotionally stimulating enough....and it wasn't like I didn't really try to embrace it...

The bottom line was that I had already lost my soul to Shiva years ago.

So, all these things are 'easy to say', but it's what's inside that matters.

I'd really like to know what.

you have found your place within the siva tradition ,

what you have found there I have found here , it is inexplicable , only realisable .

it is more due to the ripening mind of the adherent than it is to do with the tradition .

Sure, there were some amazing stories in the Mahabharata, Ramayana, Vishnu Puran, Srimad Bhagavatam etc (not that I actually read any one of these from 'cover to cover' but I knew all the stories from oral tradition).
even so there are more to these texts than stories , just as there will be with yours .
I guess...to answer my own question to you - 'there is so much more to Shiv Bhakti than the romance'....but that's just the 'fun part'.
 question what question

To be totally honest, I didn't find Vaishnavism either mentally or emotionally stimulating enough....and it wasn't like I didn't really try to embrace it...wrong time and place for you , perfect time and place for another .
you have found your place , I came to vaisnavism through vajrayana buddhism I value both traditions , I have also had to reflect deeply on the couse my path took , but for me there has been a valuable lesson learnt where ever I have found my self .

but from experience I am saying that there is more to vaisnavism than krsna and more to krsna than romanticism ,

it is not the fault of your not trying or that vaisnavism is lacking , neither just not ther right time or place for you

prehaps it has not been realised by some but many vaisnava women are not here for the physical or emotional attraction , .....

...but because they genuinely want to know the lord of the universe :namaste

As a western woman, I became Vaishnava because I went to Birla Mandir in Delhi and came face to face with God. I was not Hindu the first time I went to India. In fact I knew next to nothing about Hinduism or Vishnu. I heard Krishna's name but didn't know anything about him either.

The Birla Mandir was the first stop in India (I was doing a semester abroad in India) I went into the temple with no clue what to expect. I approached the garbhagriha more out of curiosity. I couldn't see Sri Sri Lakshmi Narayan's faces until I was close to the rail. When I saw the Lord's eyes I felt like God was looking directly at me.

It had nothing to do with cultural dispositions or mundane attraction. In fact I really had no frame of reference. I just felt like not only did I see God but for the first time ever I knew he saw me.

Birla Mandir. Oh, yes, I know. You are now the sister to all after going in and coming out. You are the Sister of Hinduism. You are a Hindu. It is a very, very special thing to be. You are not just a woman, you are an "old soul". You are a Hindu. What a thing to be! Om Namah Sivaya

As I was perusing this, noticing who replied and what was being said, I noticed an advertisment atop this thread...

"Get bigger breasts in weeks' - go to a C cup in just days!"

Now, here is me, an E-Cup just doing this:

We always want more/less than what it is we already have.

Sometimes, it is 'fashionable' and other times, it's out of necessity and we must learn to 'make do with what we have' ....oh for the invention of mimimizer bras....

Yeah, everything is a 'lesson' to me.

As a woman, I want what is tailored to my body, to my tastes, to my lifestyle to 'whatever fits'.

.....and Shiva just does that. I'll let the other ladies fight over Krishna while I take issue with a very protective and jealous Goddess...

Om Sarva Mangal Maangalye
Shive Sarvatha Saadhike
Sharanye, Tryumbike Gauri
Narayani Namosthute Om

The wrath of Radharani is nothing, gals - I must contend with Kali Ma.

have you ever heard the expression ......'' Too much information !!!''

as a devotee I have learnt that our wants very often lead us to dissatisfaction , and it is only when we give up our personal desires and dedicate our lives to serva that we accheive true happiness .

as a true devotee I serve sri radhika never have I known her wrath , only her mercy ,

no one I know would for one moment be so foolish as to think that they could compete with sri radika for krisna's love ,

one failing here is that ' madhura bhava ' is grossly missunderstood to be in competition with sri radha , it is about understanding the relationship between sri sri ' radha madhava ' it is not about competing with it .

I bow to Thee Gouri Narayani,
Who art the cause of the welfare of the world.
Who art good, who grants every wish, in whom one takes refuge,
Who art three eyed

ch..1 v..72 Devi Mahatmyam

I must contend with Kali Ma.

what is there to contend with ? .....surely this wrath is only the slayer of demons ?

Okay, I shall tone it down and try to be more 'sedate' and 'serious' in future. *fun dies*

My background before becoming Hindu was Buddhist and I think they really have something to offer here. The Buddhist masters find laughter and fun in the material world because they are above attachment to it. The archetype of the laughing Zen master comes to mind.

Sat Chit Anand can not exclude fun! It is the finding of laughter in the letting go of attachment patterns of the material world. Bliss and fun are not separate. Fun can be had when one lets go of mundane seriousness and realize that everything is the divine cosmic leela.

What good is Vaikuntha if there is no laughter?

I cannot agree with you more. When people ask how you choose your Ishta-devata I often respond I don't choose God he chooses me. I believe this is true regardless of sampradaya. God chooses the best form for the person when the timing is right and when He chooses to call them.

Thank you so much for this! I've been Hindu for about 7 years and sometimes I feel lost without a community and this post has brought a smile to my face. To feel such a welcoming post brings a smile to my face :)

jai jai , this kind of fun I am thinking of as a lightness , as with buddhists from my background (tibetan), ...there is seriousness but with lightness and much joy that comes from nonattatchment .

Sat Chit Anand can not exclude fun! It is the finding of laughter in the letting go of attachment patterns of the material world. Bliss and fun are not separate. Fun can be had when one lets go of mundane seriousness and realize that everything is the divine cosmic leela.

to me that laughter is joy , ...I dont know why but the word fun seems too small next to the joy which is shared between devotees ,

to me , ..and prehaps it is just my old fasioned usage of english , 'fun' seems somewhat trivial , as fun on one hand often relies upon derrision and on the other some form of self indulgence , .....where as joy is shared without bias .... haha ... there goes' I' being some what serious again :)

Having fun is such a crime, that it's the biggest crime in the whole universe. In fact, it's such a huge crime, that it's unforgivable. It's even more unforgivable when someone has fun on an online forum. That...is a crime against crime itself.

Hmmmm ... you may think it is fun , ..... but just of recent allmost every thread degenerates into into the same state of derailment .....because some one is ' just having some fun '
