I've read Song of Solomon (Song of Songs). It is a love poem but it is hardly porn. Noticing physical beauty is not porn. As Father Mulcahy once said to a patient (On MASH)- "Well, Solomon had a lot to sing about" Although there has been doubt as to whether Solomon wrote it or not.

I would say that pornography is vulgar and lewd, whereas erotica may be lascivious, even explicit, but is not necessarily lewd or vulgar. If you would object that this definition is vague and ill-defined, I would certainly agree, but ultimately, what is or is not excessive sexuality is often in the eye of the beholder, or the perceptions of society or tradition.

One more reason that I tend not to support government censorship of anything, since what one person finds not only inoffensive but sacred can be offensive and repugnant to another. Therefore the best way to maintain free expression is to permit everything and rely on people to make their own informed decisions about what they will and will not read or view, and how they will interpret such texts and media.

Song of Songs is poetry; it is considered sacred text by at least two major world religions, and is able to be interpreted in many ways, including numerous allegorical and metaphorical ways that are not, ultimately, even about sex or romantic love. It clearly has redeeming social importance; and while it may be risque, or even lascivious, it is not vulgar, but artistic and of long standing import in the Western World as a fount of romantic and sexual aesthetics.

Okay, but to me it's clearly about two people being rather significant others to each other. I personally find that more marriage-like than "technical" marriage. If that makes any sense, I think one should, if anything, legally marry the person one's heart is married to -- but that marriage of the heart comes before anything, and kind of makes legal marriage redundant. That's just a piece of paper after the fact..

But of course that's just personal opinion that wouldn't enter the "legality" of the text ^^ So thanks for clearing that up!

I would say that Song of Solomon is much closer to being porn than the above from Genesis.

I also say you must have an interesting definition of the word "porn".

That's not porn at all, not even softcore; there's no explicit sexual language going on, detailing every moment of the incest.

That's just a story that features sex. The existence of sex is not pornography.

how is that porn?

Porn is very different to reproduction. Porn has nothing to do with reproduction and offspring. It is purely self-gratification. The daughters of Lot wanted children...not self-gratification.

God purposed that mankind would reproduce...he invented the sex organs for that very purpose and instructed mankind to use them to reproduce.

If you really think that the account about Lots daughers is something vile like porn, then you have it all backward and whoever has been teaching you about sex needs some re-education themselves.

It is also completely different to the paradise God created for Adam and Eve (notice Eve is not plural...there was only 1 woman given to the man)

What islam teaches in this regard is quite disturbing. Jesus also put an end to polygamy...so it also is against the teachings of the Messiah.
