XBOX360 vs Playstation 3

It speaks more about Microsoft's inability to make a good platform (windows) or a good console than about the state of consoles in general.
Guess you haven't tried Windows 7. And I can not even remember the last time I got a virus or spy ware.

May I ask you what Operating System you are using right now?

btw, how did you receive a virus? I mean, I could understand spyware or so, but I haven't received a virus in years!

I don't know how I got the viruses (multiple). I don't download many things, I don't visit a large number of sites, I scan my computer for viruses consistently and run the update programs as required.

Modded XBOX 360 to alarmclock and tissueholder.. No more red rings :p

Still waiting for the magic wand vs project Natal, but in the mean while PS3 did some good business with the new design. Not a real shock.

It took a while and I finally have all presentgeneration consoles :p
I am only working a few days with the PS3 now, but I allready found a few differences.

First of all, the xbox is obviously more gameminded. Simple things like downloading extra's for a game makes you log out, exit the game, log in, enter the store, buy, log out, open game, log in..
I don't remember exactly the way the xbox solves this, but he handles it better and faster.
Also, options like reading your mail and seeing your friends while gaming seems faster on the xbox.
On the xbox 360 it is possible to install a game to the HD, on the PS3 it seems that he will either just install it or disable the possibillity? Haven't fully investigated that.

PSN left me disappointed. XBOX live seems to have more and better games. Might be a preference though. Paying went a lot faster and easier though

But now looking at a mediacentre..
Ok, the xbox is a microsoft mediaplayer extender... but who uses that really if you can also stream your music explorerstyle! The playstation seems be handeling a lot more. I am able to play movies I cannot on the XBOX and the options for your sound are super!

Themes..
Ok, now I am just ********, but I altered the theme on the ps3 and whenever I start up I first get to see those annoying stars and the old theme before it slowly turns to mine.. WHAT THE ..!!! WHY!?!

The wire for charging the controller would have been great if you could charge it while the console was powered down, now it is just way too short!

I noticed you need to type a lot more on the PS3 than on the XBOX, I don't know why, but for the first time I have the feeling that I should actually connect a keyboard to this thing..

I'll update later :p

The controllers.
I know this is just a preference, but mine is definately the 360 version. It fits my hand better and I HATE the L2 and R2 from the PS3 controller. When racing for example I slip off the buttons, very annoying! Thank science that Wipe out HD still plays with the X button.

One small, but still big thing I noticed is the name of the buttons. When playing with friends I sometimes have to guide them or just scream which button they should immidiatly press. Screaming "A" or "X" just goes faster than "square" or "circle". (This is worse in dutch by the way, there they are called "vierkant" and "rondje".

Again, preferences, but I prefer the shape of the analoguesticks on the 360. The also seem to be slightly sturdier, what I like.

I prefer heavy controllers, so again 360..

Games
Most games I like are on both, lucky me.
I adore God of War 3, so one point for PS3.
As I said before I prefer xboxlive games to PSN games. one-one.
I am going to make the PS3 the winner here though, but that's because I think that FPS games should be played on the PC instead of the console taking away many 360 exclusives.

It's been more than a year since the first post and codecs have changed over that one year. I notice that with many of the new codecs the chance that the 360 will play the movie is bigger than the PS3. Even though I think both should upgrade.
Simple formats like the .mkv files are for both impossible to read.

Edit: This was not what I expected btw, Sony promotes it's hardware as multimediacenter and it is failing big time. Well, yeah, it can still play blue ray.. :S

It's multimedia in the way they want it, i.e. downloading movies from the PS store. Streaming iPlayer is a good thing though.

I know have a ps3, and am on my 4th 360, so I can now make an informed decision.
I do not like the saving methods of the ps3. It's not that bad, but I had my God of War 3 data saved over because it can cause some confusion if your not aware that it moves the current game to the top of the save list. I'm also still trying to figure out if I can put music and videos on a flashdrive and play them on the ps3. (I got mine refurbished, and it didn't come with a manual.)
The 360 I don't like the new/current dashboard set up, and the avatars scream Wii rip off. I do not like the fact they are prone to error, and the discs stopped reading on all my previous units. And I either have to wait a few more months or call tech support to be able to download the license for all my downloaded content because I already used the license transfer tool this year.
The ps3 IMO is more streamline, and has much faster loading and saving times. And you don't have to select which memory unit to load from each and every time you start a game or switch profiles. However, maybe because I'm playing on a small TV (with A/V cables), the letters in a game, any game, are very small and alittle blurry. I have to sit right in front of the TV to be able to read anything.
Online play I'd prefer Playstation network, mainly because it's free. (Or at least it was, I haven't actually played the ps3 online yet), and XBox live is a monthly subscription. I also prefer the ps3 controller, but the playstation controller has been my favorite since ps1.
But overall, I'd prefer the ps3. I'd actually almost prefer the Wii, given that it has alot of very fun games, and has Metroid and Zelda, and I'd just prefer Nintendo because through the NES up to the Wii, there have been alot of great games that are still just as much fun today as they were 5, 10, 20+ years ago. Although Playstation 1 did build up an epic library, especially in the RPG genre.

I got my ps3 for the games and to have a blu ray player. It probably won't be very long before DVDs start to really be phased out, and with blu ray players still being on the expensive side, I figured I might as well get a console and a blu ray player in one. As for the rest of the multimedia, I really don't care. It would be awesome if I could figure out if I could load files using a flashdrive, and if anyone could help me that would be awesome, but I'm not going to get upset over it if I can't.

pictures and movie/music files are automatically loaded to both the xbox screen and PS3 screen. Just put them somewhere on the stick and navigate to music or movies.

As for blueray, I don't have any and I actually hope the disc will die out.

The PS3 has superior hardware, while the 360 has superior software (IMO.) The game library of the PS3, while it has improved a great deal since it's release, is still substandard IMO; however, it has free online gaming, and some really great exclusives. On the other hand, the 360 has lots of great PC ports, as well as a huge library of exclusives. However, the PS3 has a larger variety in terms of actual games, whereas the 360 tends to stick with FPSs. Plus, you have to pay a monthly fee to play online. The 360 is backwards compatible with the original XBOX, but the PS3 is still not backwards compatible with the PS2.

So, really, it depends on your gaming style. Because of its variety, the PS3 is starting to really make a name for itself, but I'd still choose the 360 at the moment. But the unreliability of the 360 itself is really starting to get to me.

I tried that (for music and video), and it said it couldn't find any titles. Does it have to be in a specific format?
