Yet another school with racism problems

The Post blithely ran the story series because it suited their agenda.
Again, you deflect from the issues by attacking the sources solely because you don't like the stories, which you don't dispute.
This leaves nothing to discuss.

No you're bsing-

Two days after the prize had been awarded, Post publisher Donald E. Graham held a press conference and admitted that the story was fraudulent. The editorial in the next day's paper offered a public apology. Assistant managing editor Woodward said at the time:

I believed it, we published it. Official questions had been raised, but we stood by the story and her. Internal questions had been raised, but none about her other work. The reports were about the story not sounding right, being based on anonymous sources, and primarily about purported lies [about] her personal life—[told by three reporters], two she had dated and one who felt in close competition with her. I think that the decision to nominate the story for a Pulitzer is of minimal consequence. I also think that it won is of little consequence. It is a brilliant story—fake and fraud that it is. It would be absurd for me or any other editor to review the authenticity or accuracy of stories that are nominated for prizes.[6]

Find me sources that don't lie. Then I will discuss the stories. I'm not going to dispute or not stories based on sources that are known to lie.

To continually attack sources while ignoring the articles is deflection....wordy deflection at that.
I can understand that such behavior of so many students is difficult to defend.

No, it's not. Again, give me sources that aren't known for lying and have credibility. You have to have credibility in the first place for whatever story you're trying to tell. If you don't have credibility why should I give you the time of my day? I'm not going to buy the bs from places like the Washington Times, Fox News, Wall Street Journal editorial page, Breitbert and all these type of neoconservative/conservative outlets that are known for lying. Why would I if I had any integrity for truth?

Hey, it's your thread....if you want only supportive articles for it, that's your prerogative.
But that's not interesting. I don't do the amen chorus thing.

I'm not asking for "amen chorus" I'm asking for more reliable sources is all. I'd rather have the Guardian over the Daily Caller. Just saying. At least the Guardian is generally more reliable than the Daily Caller. That's like me posting from the Daily Beast. Would you trust the Daily Beast alone on a story? I think you would be foolish to do so but that's just me. You shouldn't trust just ONE outlet. You have to dig around to figure out what's going on and if people are telling the same story. That's how a lot of things get blown up, whatever it is, because they're all having their own stories or biases involved. Is that really journalism? My opinion is no. I was always taught journalism was finding out the truth and not inserting your own bias and agenda into something.

But I did some more looking around from the Guardian and decided to look in the comments section on the links that were shared. I generally avoid comments sections because they're usually useless and bat**** insane and people just arguing about it but I decided to do so with the Guardian links and found it was actually pretty good. I should have clicked on the links earlier and not used my own bias against comment sections. I did some digging around through the comments sections and admit I was wrong about the Hunt man and the tshirt guy it just seems like people were hyper sensitive about his shirt with a naked woman on it for whatever reasoning. I don't think he was fired or anything. But, really, if a shirt someone is wearing is your biggest issue of the day... lucky you? As far as the yt thing I tried to follow what was posted and am too lost and it seems like too much yt drama and I don't even want to try with that one.

So, after doing my own digging around on it I admit I was wrong about the Hunt man and it was just him poking fun at his being old (he's 89, right?). Unless I'm wrong again or just haven't seen it I don't think the other man was fired. Just people being silly over a shirt he was wearing and ignoring the bigger picture of what he was talking about and what he was there for.

I'm very weary of a lot of this supposed SJW stuff because a lot of the times it seems to be just conservative people bsing about something from their own ideology views of things and so many times conservatives have lied. I like to take my time in figuring something out and I don't trust conservative sources here in the US. I just don't. But again I barely watching the media here in the US in the first place.....but I'm rambling now.

Ehh, I already have like 20000 books on my TBR. Maybe later lol

Booktv is interviews and sometimes lectures. It's not actual books lol. So you can always listen to the audio while you're doing other things. I used to do that in the past and they have some really awesome people who come from all sorts of political leanings. CSPAN is awesome for political geeks. And don't worry about responding. On Monday I'm going in for a job interview so after this week I might have a job so I will be on here only in the evenings then lol. Oh and with Booktv they interview people about books they've written and talk about the subject matter of the book. Very good if you're really into political and history stuff.

As far as the issues goes I always try to pride myself on being the type of person who can admit when I'm wrong about things. It takes a big person to do that and to apologize. You mentioned about British humor and I must admit I really don't get it and don't follow anything with British comedy. The closest thing I've seen with British tv is Law & Order British version and 007 but I don't know if that counts. On edit I was in love with "Copper" but haven't seen if it's still on tv or not.

I tried to dig around on the two guys Hunt and the other guy I'll call tshirt guy. Taylor, right?

I used your Guardian links since most people seem to trust them. I decided to look through the comments section. Usually comments sections scare me because it can be just off the wall bat**** with people just arguing and being insane. But, I thought why not look and I did and it was actually pretty good comments there. Not insane at all. I was really quite surprised honestly speaking. People posted other links, even within the Guardian to other posts, and it seems like you're right. The guy was trying to bring a joke. I don't know why the other two people went crazy over his comments if it was obvious in his voice. I haven't seen a video? I don't know if you have one. That would certainly help me at least with it. But if you see just the part about girls falling in love and crying about being criticized it could certainly look bad. But if you see the rest of it where he pokes at himself for being old (he's 89, right? so he's def a grandpa bless his heart) and I'm sure he has seen and experienced issues of racism and sexism in science over the years.

So, it seems I was wrong about him in that regard thanks to digging around and I apologize for that to him not that he will ever see my comments and I'm a nobody but still I do. And to you as well. I'm the type of person who has to have time to dig around and I don't just trust things on face value. I've learned my lessons over the yrs since I've been involved in politics since I was 18. I especially don't trust conservative sources. That's just me. We all have sources we trust and don't.

As far as the other guy goes I don't think anything happened to him except hyper sensitive responses to his shirt with a naked woman on it. I saw the tshirt and I was like "okay" but it didn't bother me since nudity doesn't bother me. We're all naked under our clothes. We all take our clothes off when we shower (or at least I hope we do that would be awkward). From what I saw it just seemed like people were hyper sensitive about his shirt for some reason or another. Like, okay, your biggest issue of the day is some guy's shirt. Okay, lucky you. But I don't think anything happened to him in terms of firing? Not that I could find.

As far as the yt stuff goes it seems too dramaish and ridiculous to try to keep up with it so I'm not even going to try to bother with that one. Yt is full of drama and the most ridiculous crap on there. Have you seen some of the nonsense that happens with the "beauty gurus"? Dear, lord, that community has gone to hell in a hand basket. So, I hope you understand when I don't want to try with yt drama. Thank you for providing the links but I'm going to have to admit defeat and just pass on that.

That's okay. I admit that I was biased coming into the discussion and was guilty of being wrong myself. It took a lot of guts to say that you were wrong at first. Not many people I know would have done that.
And I apologize if I was harsh towards you in this discussion. It was probably me letting off some steam. I hope you didn't take it like I was totally serious.

I'm not a conservative nor an American, so I can only comment on what I've personally seen online. I've witnessed SJWs harassing people and then going to the media when people retaliate, claiming victimhood status and outright lying about the ordeal. It's quite............. awful really. Regardless of your political affiliations. So be aware, it's not just conservative ideologues challenging them it's several internet subgroups tired of their antics. And neither side of the news as it were bothers to fact check when these SJWs do this. Happened time and time again.
So maybe you can understand the heat the SJWs get a little better? Or at least that the anti side isn't always lying Cons?

Actually, I remember reading about Tshirt guy for the first time. The article made the shirt sound worse than Hitler. So I was expecting like naked cut up women covered in blood, bound in chains and on leashes or something to that effect. The actual shirt itself was actually a bit disappointing haha. But yeah, it was one of those instances where you just facepalm at the entire thing. Like, for serious.
Tshirt guy later made a public apology and was crying during it. So people were quite disgusted that he seem to have been bullied to such a point over something so innocuous. So yeah there was quite a lot of emotions on both sides at first.
But I don't think he was fired. Probably because in that instance his skills were more important or he made a deal with PR? Who knows, really. But at first I kind of thought he would be fired, if I'm being honest.

With regards to Hunt, yeah. I can see where the other side is coming from, sort of. But perhaps I've just become used to harsher sexual language? Because I didn't know what all the hubbub was about. A full video would have cleared things up relatively quickly, but I don't know if you can find one. Maybe it's floating around somewhere obscure. He came across as a bit of an old fashioned nice guy, from what little I did see of him. So yeah.

But British humour can be quite bawdy lol. Although it's also often really dry as well. So you can't even judge it based on delivery, which can cause confusion and misinterpretations internationally, admittedly. I recommend Monty Python, the Inbetweeners or Rowan Atkinson, personally.

Yes one must be wary of sources even reputable ones. Al Jazeera or maybe it was Sky News recently put up some story about a Punjabi guy apparently posing as an Isis member. Despite the photo being photoshopped and him being a Sikh (there's a long running feud between radical Islam and Sikhs. Like a few centuries worth.) So it appears knee jerk reactions can occur even at the most prestigious outlets these days. Such a shame.

I so agree with the YT not being worth it. But it can provide interesting contexts left out of the media coverage of such feuds. Honestly I'm surprised Mason hasn't sued that lady for libel and slander. And the worst thing is, she's now started more ****. Like omg, seriously. Although it is darkly entertaining. lol

Hmm, I don't think you were really. Not to the point where it was mean or anything like that lol. Maybe frustrated? But not like grr mean mean mean or something. But, like I said from past experience the comments sections on news stuff can be out right nasty and just fighting so I generally avoid them. Then I had this thought well I should take a look and I was like damn. It was pretty chill and people had good information and even with links. I was really shocked. Lol.

Well, I stay away from stuff online. On forums I come here, Reddit, and this pop culture forum but other wise I don't have the time. I have people on yt who I like to watch but that's it. I used to be on tumblr but even then it was Kpop and beauty/fashion stuff I used to reblog and stuff. So, if it's not on Reddit or on any of the political type of channels I watch (from biased to not) I don't see it.

And usually here it is from conservatives and they are known to lie. I suggest you google James O'Keefe. He's a punk and he's lied so much. He was even going to have a young woman who worked with him raped and it was going with some plan to discredit her because she was going to go talk to the media about his bs. He does these ridiculous "pranks" to get people mad and rilled up and makes these claims about liberals or anyone left leaning and they're all lies. He tried to bug a Senators office and got caught but never had any prison time. Imagine that. He's just one example but the most well known one.

Yeah it was just a naked woman with the typical sexualization of a blonde hair woman with big boobs. I understand why someone might not like it but eh it's nothing really to get worked up over. Let's say I worry more about ladybugs and ants this time of year than some guys tshirt. But yeah I didn't see anything about him getting fired. Just people being hyper sensitive.

He is 89 so yeah that matters too lol. He's a grandpa. But yeah I don't get British humor so... but reading the last part of his quote it doesn't make it as bad as if you just saw the first part about it.

Oh I have seen Monty Python. I enjoyed the Life of Brian one a lot. That one is so funny. I forgot about that being British. I do have English ancestry too lol. One of my ancestors was an executioner at the Tower of London and my family has a castle in England.

I haven't heard about this whole yt thing. Are they US people? The yt channel TYT (The Young Turks) talk about stuff online too and I haven't even heard of them covering about it and they do stories like that too. Shrug. But if it's this yt drama crap I'm like...no...let me go over here. I appreciate you finding the links but I don't even wanna try. I've seen drama in the "beauty community" and even that confuses me and I'm like: why?

Oh yeah even here right wingers confuse Sikhs with brown skinned people who are following Islam. There have been a couple of attacks here (physical beatings) from right wingers on Sikh men because they thought they were Muslim. Sigh. I don't think Al Jazeera would make that mistake since they are based from Qatar and are from the middle east as an organization so I think they would know the difference. If I had to bet it was Sky news (Murdoch).

Lol that's good.
Yeah comment sections have a notoriously bad reputation. But they can be a good source of information as well. Don't let your fears or biases keep you from looking for the truth. :)

Well, I stay away from stuff online. On forums I come here, Reddit, and this pop culture forum but other wise I don't have the time. I have people on yt who I like to watch but that's it. I try to. I always seem to get dragged into **** though. At first it was for merely asking questions to radical combative feminists. Then it was for merely interjecting into hate mobs trying to calm people down. But I've decided to fight, at least in the Gaming Online Community. Because I am sick of casual females giving gamer girls bad reputations. And boy is your press against the gamers. No outlet, no matter how prestigious or political affiliation, seems to be above lying or selective truth about Gamer Gate. There was even an episode of Law and Order SVU, trying to do a semi commentary that just painted gamers as having these roving packs of sub humans, trying to rape as many women as possible intermingled amongst them. And they tried to say that it was just part of the culture. And then these idiots wonder why the gamers hit back with sexist ****, fake or otherwise. Treat people like ********, you'll probably get ******** in return. It's a sad mess, really.

Oh I do not doubt that there are Cons who lie. But I haven't seen much evidence that it's only the Cons. But again, I am not really familiar with your political climate. Only saying that even internationally known "Liberal outlets" have been caught lying as well. At least I think they're Liberals?
I seem to remember our News Outlets being quite astounded that a lady by the name of Katie Couric misinforming the public about HPV vaccines. It was a little "wtf America" segment. I assume she was taken to task? Eghh, news and medicine rarely mix well.
But it'll take too long to list all the examples. Especially in regards to again, gaming in general. I'm quite glad our news often doesn't have the time of day for that hobby, tbh.
My indolence strikes again. My bad.

Exactly!! It's like meeting your ultimate iedol as he gives the most inspiration speech to you and then fretting that he/she has a piece of broccoli in their teeth. At that point I would think there would be bigger fish to fry.

Have you heard of a site called Gawker? They're a filthy piece of rumor mill trash posing as online Journalists. They make the Tabloids seem noble by comparison. Truly sickening people.
Well among other such wonderful endeavors like outing gay people publicly, lying (remember the Hulk Hogan scandal. That was their doing, it was an out of context soundbite or whatever. And I think last time I heard he was suing they for libel and defamation of character.) Their baby site the Verge who supposedly talk about "womens/feminist issues" (blech! as if) were stirring up the pot in the whole "shirtgate" ordeal. Screaming out loud about this stupid shirt.
http://www.theverge.com/2014/11/13/7213819/your-bowling-shirt-is-holding-back-progress

The very definition of "fainting couch feminism." Is there an emoticon on here to show one throwing up? Because I think most real feminists should be ashamed of **** like this being in the public as "feminist." Makes us look like weak crybabies, imo.
Sincerely, **** the Verge and the Jezabel and those other spawn of Gawker sites. Not only a blight on journalism and feminism, but a blight on humanity as well.

He is 89 so yeah that matters too lol. He's a grandpa. But yeah I don't get British humor so... but reading the last part of his quote it doesn't make it as bad as if you just saw the first part about it.

Yeah, British humor can often come across as shocking. You just have to take what a lot of the Brits say with a grain of salt. Because usually they're pretty awesome people.
Yes, reading a full quote as opposed to the snippet that some Journos jumped on really shows you how easy it is to manipulate to conversation or mischaracteristic someone. In a more just world, he should have sued them for character assassination and kept his position. Sigh. But maybe he's just too old and tired.

Oh I have seen Monty Python. I enjoyed the Life of Brian one a lot. That one is so funny. I forgot about that being British. I do have English ancestry too lol. One of my ancestors was an executioner at the Tower of London and my family has a castle in England.

Love Monty Python. Got a collection of all their movies lol

Oh that's an interesting bit of heritage.
My Grandparents on my father's side are Brits.

The lady (who is still breaking the law. She tried to intimidate fans of her opponent by using the FBI symbol presumably without permission to say she was coming after those who commented. Who, by the way, were just reacting to her outright vile subhuman antics. I assume that's illegal in America?) is an American. Her opponent, the one who was mocked for losing his dad to cancer, seriously I know I harp on about that, it just sickens me to the core, is a British man.

Funny thing about the TYT I didn't know at first that they considered themselves Journos. I thought they were just really well produced VLoggers. Like a little subsidiary sect of a Journo company trying to reach the online community. Because I'll be honest, they seem really biased.

To be fair, unless you are Indian/Punjabi or of Middle Eastern descent (or have close friends who are) it is sometimes hard to tell the difference. The Arabs and the Indians have long swapped ideas and even clothing to a certain extent. Although it's obvious once you notice the differences, to an average middle class white person who doesn't know any Sikhs or Muslims, I could see where they would get confused. The turbans and the bushy beards on a brown person carry quite the significant connotations. It's the nuance that makes it easier to tell.

It was most likely Sky News. lol

Lol that's good.
Yeah comment sections have a notoriously bad reputation. But they can be a good source of information as well. Don't let your fears or biases keep you from looking for the truth. :)

Well it's not really fear so much as not wanting to deal with stupid **** you know? It's usually circle jerking stupid crap and a lot of racism etc. Like, yeah I've got better things to do than read through that drivel.

Don't try Kpop lol.

My bad.

Well, here in the US we've gone so far right wing it's hard to tell sometimes... And labels get thrown around a lot like with liberals. Some people just aren't. I don't think Couric is anything in her journalism. Goes where things go? In terms of being something I mean being liberal or conservative. I've never heard about her.

Yes, I've heard of Gakwer though I'm not that familiar with them. I don't like outing people either. I think that's wrong even if it's like that megachurch preacher guy. He had serious issues with drugs and gay prostitutes. He was being a hypocrite but he still had serious issues.

Yeah, British humor can often come across as shocking. You just have to take what a lot of the Brits say with a grain of salt. Because usually they're pretty awesome people.

Yeah, there's some MP on Netflix. I've mostly seen the Life of Brian and this other one I can't remember the name lol. As far as suing for defamation I guess depends on the laws and international laws in play perhaps too.

TYT is just a liberal/left leaning talk show but they do talk about things like that if it's big enough of a thing.

People just want to be lazy in looking at people naughty naughty. I bet it was Sky news too. I don't think Al Ajazeera would get that wrong lol. If they did damn they'd prob have some flowing of letters lol.

Sorry for just getting back. I had two interviews this week. *cross fingers*

lol So true.

Far Right? Like how far? You guys seem more liberal from an outsider perspective. Though both sides of your polies are more extreme by default. Again from an outsider's perspective.

SIncerely, **** Gawker. I hope Hogan wins his case against them.

Monty Python's Meaning of Life? And now for something completely different? Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Those are the only other movies MP did really.

Maybe. That lady is damned lucky she wasn't a native Czheck Republican. From what I understand she could have gone to jail just for her false Nazi accusations.

TYT is just a liberal/left leaning talk show but they do talk about things like that if it's big enough of a thing.

Meh, might explain why they don't often do their research properly.

People just want to be lazy in looking at people naughty naughty. I bet it was Sky news too. I don't think Al Ajazeera would get that wrong lol. If they did damn they'd prob have some flowing of letters lol.

But it's indicative of the declining integrity in the media. Like okay, Murdoch is a ********. But even Aljazeera have been one sided in the past on a few things. Like who am I supposed to trust anymore? Comment sections? I shouldn't have to get the real information from laymen arguing on the interwebz. Le sigh, perhaps I'm too idealistic.

Sorry for just getting back. I had two interviews this week. *cross fingers*

Oooh, good luck!
