It is a bit of a thorny question.
There are lots of "strange logic" in the Adam and Eve story.
... they ate of the fruit and discovered they were naked, and covered themselves ...
I wonder what the Bantu think of that ? or modern naturists ? A social convention is presented as a self evident consequence of intelligence. If only life were that easy.
The story comes from a society the deeply believe that convention to be true. Unclothed == shameful and bad. For the story to be written that way that society must have existed
before the garden. Or at least before the story was written.
There is little need to worry about deep philosophical content in the story, its import have been many times filtered and reinterpreted before it got fixated in written form. and the filtering have changed it.
