    Do Plants Feel?

Storm, Painted Wolf I too have my doubts about this experiment. A bit more searching indicates that it's not the type of music per se that plants respond to (the 'new age' hypothesis), it's the vibrations produced. If my pupil still wants to do this, I'll get her to use a monotone emitted from...

    Do Plants Feel?

Do you have any info on these types of experiments? One of my final-year high school pupils wants to do a biology project on this topic. I’ve had a brief search, but there is a lot of ‘new age’ type stuff on this subject, which isn’t suitable. Did you come across any good papers or articles that...

How best to argue against creationists

To address the thread topic: Creationists often claim that they are looking at the same evidence as a biologist or a geologist- the difference is in the interpretation. We need the creationists to lay out their hypotheses, methodology and show the results of their investigations. After all...

    Communicating with God?

If, as many of the above posters have said, communicating with god is possible and is a deeply personal experience, why then the need for organised religion with all the various trappings, hierarchies of priests and ministers, rules and regulations? If it all boils down to a one-to-one...

How best to argue against creationists

Peacewise. To be fair, though, a number of us have provided various references for creationists to consider. If the title of the thread is 'how best to argue against creationists', then the answer, to me, seems to be to present them with an outline of what evolution is and back that up with...

How best to argue against creationists

Humans have 100% of their DNA in common with other forms of life . Everything uses the same basic genetic code. What you may be referring to is the similarities between the genomes of organisms. Chimp and human genomes are around 98% identical.

How best to argue against creationists

I think you will find that eventually no-one will engage with you on this thread because you seem to be repeating the same thing and not acknowledging that we are responding to your requests. Take the time to read the responses people here are giving you, newhope.

Do you believe in a global flood?

Are you okay with literalists often tying themselves in knots trying to make biblical stories fit current thinking (or vice versa)? The flood, for example (*trying to stay on topic before a moderator kicks me off*). There is no scientific evidence for a water canopy as extensive as claimed in...

Do you believe in a global flood?

Thanks for that. I agree that it is not a scientific or historical book, but it seems that, on this thread, some do see the bible as very much a historical book. I'm in a debate at the moment with Rusra02, who believes that a global flood did indeed occur. How do you feel when fellow christians...

How best to argue against creationists

Ok, fair enough. I was trying to distinguish between accepting something on faith or unverified, and accepting something based on evidence. Peace to you, Peacewise.

How best to argue against creationists

You are making a classic error in terminology, Jollybear. You will find that scientists don't believe in evolution either. Neither do they believe in gravity. If something exists as a fact (based on accumulation of robust evidence), then you can't 'believe' in it - you accept it unless a more...
