If you hang around here long enough...

I keep coming across statements like this and there I go again spilling my coffee! So you doubt something and that gives you faith? [Well it does read that way] I doubt something and I look hard at all the evidence for it. Only then do I have faith in it…..or dump it!:sarcastic

Sorry if I misunderstand you crossfire. :) [I thought I was narrowing the meaning of faith?]

If you hang around here long enough...

One of the pleasures of being on a debating forum like this is when you come across a post that makes you spill your coffee as you gasp in disbelief. I respect your comment but for the life of me I cant get my head around this?

If a God exists, and claimed to be good, and moral, would his claim necessarily be true?

If we take your point to its logical conclusion then we must recognise that we know nothing for sure. If he is all powerful then he could even be misleading an atheist like me into believing he doesn't exist.:sarcastic

If you hang around here long enough...

Guilty until proven innocent? I am not criticising or condemning anyone here am I? Faith: a strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof. Trust: a firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something. Two words with subtle...

    No faith?

    Your welcome :D

If you hang around here long enough...

I read your post with a lot of empathy and I am sorry you are suffering from your migraine. I hope this does not make your migraine worse and I hesitate to say this but, reading all you say here have you considered atheism?

If you hang around here long enough...

Perfect explanation. And I could not agree more. Thank you.:) One tiny proviso though, I personally can not start from a position of faith and then investigate to see if it is true. Faith in something for me comes from investigating it first to find out if it is true, the faith then follows...

If you hang around here long enough...

I would love you to explain this statement in more detail. I am at a total loss as to what you mean by this. probably because, not being that bright I have missed the point and its obvious to everybody else. I am sincere about this as I find this statement intriguing.:)

    Islam debate

To say ‘Islam is sent down from God’ is no better than saying the tooth fairy is sent down from god, or the great spaghetti monster, or father Christmas and so on. So you need to be more convincing Yuusif. Now if you say its true because it says so in the Quran well I have my copy here in...

Surely the world we live in proves there is no [loving] God.

To refute that would be to open up a whole new debate on proving religion is wrong. Have you got a few spare years to discuss the bible, evolution and many other relevant subjects. So I happily pass on that one and you can make what you want from that.:)

Surely the world we live in proves there is no [loving] God.

Gnosticism is not an alternative to me because I am not an atheist without good reason. I did not miss your post, I just rejected it on the grounds that all religion is illogical and without any scientific evidence.

Which leads nicely back to my thread thank you Penumbra. I was only targeting the God of the Bible. Beyond that we are into speculation and guess work. I think its all a computer game myself and I want to win it.:D

I appreciate you comment here and you are right of course. Its just the thought of a God with the power [presumably] of curing a child with cancer not doing so. Overly simplistic perhaps?

Good morning to you. Well I am new here so its not ‘the same old debate’ to me. You are obviously of a higher intelligence than most of us but could you please make allowances for a simple woman like me?

Surely the world we live in proves there is no [loving] God.

Yes but the answer has to make sense. Sorry but I have JWs in the family and have debated with them most of my life. To me you make no sense at all so I will move on.

Surely the world we live in proves there is no [loving] God.

With all due respect I have to say this is missing the point on a grand scale! Almost unbelievable………almost.

Surely the world we live in proves there is no [loving] God.

My thread was specifically aimed at the Christian God because of the impossibility as I see it of marrying up a Loving God with the world we see around us. But my motivation for the thread is the children. Picture the scene, “Mummy why am I dying of cancer? Why does it hurt so...
