    Degradation of Porn

I believe you that there is. But nevertheless if a person wants to watch porn they are going for some kind of sexual satisfaction which is artificially deprived of emotional content and realism. There is no actual other human you have to deal with in satisfying it, one can be purely a consumer...

    Degradation of Porn

Like, what you're saying makes sense, except that I think it's easy to underestimate how much deep watching and producing porn gets into a person's mental programming! Especially a teenager's. Sure, more education about sex is needed, and sure the fact that people watch porn is a symptom of...

    Degradation of Porn

Surely it's quite obvious to those who aren't overly habituated that porn is unhealthy and exploitative. It evidently habituates people to sex as the be-all of inter-gender relationships. Men get used to sexualising women, women get used to being objects of consumption. Especially when people...

When evangelists knock on your door...

I think up at my parents' farm the JWs used to come, a long time ago. Doesn't seem to happen so much now. I think there has been a shift in strategy to the street corner stands - I have seen them all over the world! Sometimes I used to get into conversation with the LDS missionaries in the...

Which of these two things do you think is more important to Donald Trump.

Is this literally you blaming the post-apartheid government for pulling down what was built under apartheid? It will take a long time for the post-apartheid social damage to be undone, let alone corruption etc, but harking back to the "conservative" years of apartheid is hardly a productive way...

Sri Lanka Easter bombings from a Muslims perspective

Great, thankyou! We went to a load of places, from Matara and Kataragama to Nainativu and Jaffna.

Sri Lanka Easter bombings from a Muslims perspective

I was there before the bombings, as it happens. I visited two of the churches which were later bombed. Thankyou! A very beautiful island. And travelling there is is easier when your girlfriend speaks Sinhala, too!

Sri Lanka Easter bombings from a Muslims perspective

Sri Lanka is an amazing country, with such incredibly pluralism and broadness of thought coexisting with emphatic communalist prejudice. Good on you for all efforts to stand for righteousness there, unqualified support! As a side note, do you know if the Easter attacks impacted Chinese...

    Minimum Wage

Yeah I know that's the HK language! But I read that about 40% of people know Putonghua. Cantonese I'd have to put 2nd or 3rd in my Chinese languages. Hokkien would vie.

    Minimum Wage

I would have thought quite a few people would want to get Hong Kong residency in one way or another! Plenty of people do so in Singapore and Taiwan. Great people can make more money! But like, more protections against exploitation would not go amiss.

    Minimum Wage

Is there a path to permanent residency and citizenship for migrant workers in Hong Kong? It sounds like it isn't exactly a good deal for all concerned if the legal system is stacked against them! Do you have British National (Overseas)?

    Minimum Wage

Yeah, that's true. But still, I think it can change things.

I believe in a culturally pure America.

Ain't features in plenty of British Isles dialects.

Hey man, why should America be on top of the world? What have you got against everybody else in the world?

By what basis do you designate "proper grammar"?

RE cowboys and Indians, do we commemorate the Native American genocide or gloss over it? And regarding cuisine, are we to assume that vegetarianism is therefore unAmerican?

Why is upper class dialect preferable? Also, speaking from Britain, there are a wide diversity of accents, many of which include the pronunciation of R's!

    Minimum Wage

That does change the situation! I don't see an especial problem with paying lower wages if full room and board are provided. Although I am sure there is exploitation of domestic workers going on in HK, as there tends to be everywhere. Totally off-topic, but how are things in HK this week?
