    Did God make the rules?

Your just trying to get me to argue for God's existence. You haven't denied that identity has existence, that is shares in something beyond being a law on paper. As I keep saying over and over I have no wish to argue for the existence of God in this thread, it is not required, in no sense has...

'God became man so that man may become God'

For several reasons, firstly because we only have a very limited view of the times. Secondly because there is far more to Christianity than simply what is in the written scripture and thirdly because they were in quite a different situation and mindset. I'd say the early church was basically...

'God became man so that man may become God'

Sort of, all these terms though are vague by their very nature. Human language and mental conceptions cannot completely capture or describe them completely, it would be like completely explaining God with discursive thought.

    Did God make the rules?

What is identity? You keep talking about it as if it is simply some discrete thing, as if it is just like a law written on paper. But in order for there to be identity there must existence, identity must exist in some sense, again we're stretching reason here. So while identity impacts existence...

    The gay-bashing capital of Europe

But how would they be banned from "EU countries". I don't want some quasi-despotic(see the EU constitution/Lisbon treaty farce.) foreign entity deciding who can come to Britain. If Britain is to ban people we'll do it ourselves, we don't need Brussels to it for us, no matter what our traitorous...

Who Do Christians Follow Paul or Jesus(pbuh)???

Christians believe that Paul was the inspired follower of God and apostle of Jesus. This is a basic part of the Christian faith. Traditional Christianity is not simply based on literal readings of the scripture but on sacred tradition, traditional interpretations and metaphysics, the patristic...

    The gay-bashing capital of Europe

I was being a facetious eurosceptic. But your comment does suggest a court in Holland should be able to ban people from Britain, as a eurosceptic Brit I don't much like even the suggestion of such a position. I'd rather get Britain to pull out of Schengen and if possible the EU.

    if not evolution

An alternative to evolution is the Platonist alternative. Each species begins as the idea of a species at a higher reality, it then descends through the various lower levels of being and individuates until individual examples of the species manifest themselves at our level.

No such thing as rape in marriage

Technically I don't think he would. He would be condemned for having sex with a cow, it was not the material welfare of the cow that was the main reason behind this prohibition though.

Physical appearance of Adam and Eve?

For me they are the Idea or Essence of man descending from higher realities into our plain of existence. Sorry if such gruff old Platonism is unexciting.

'God became man so that man may become God'

It is true that Christian mysticism has never quite defined whether the goal is to join with God, become near God or be God but really these terms are all indistinct, discursive thought can never understand the exactitudes. It is the same with Nirvana and Enlightenment. It is certainly not...

No such thing as rape in marriage

As others have said the common law basically agrees. I'm normally a defender of the common law but not in this instance(though how you could get a successful prosecution I'm unsure of.). In the common law the marriage vow was taken to be a permanent expression of consent.

    The gay-bashing capital of Europe

How would they get a lifelong ban from the Schengen area? That area is of multiple nations.

Why the Jesus Myth is illogical.

I'm soon to complete my undergraduate studies in politics and ancient history. I can certainly say that Jesus is better historically evidenced than many historical figures we do not doubt. He is better evidenced than any Roman figure before 300-250 BC, but who doubts Camillus or Cincinnatus?

"How Religion Is Killing Our Most Vulnerable Youth"

Can you show me how in terms of traditional Christian doctrine, scriptural interpretation theology and metaphysics? I aim to always treat them with decency. Indeed I tend to do this more so than many irreligious people I know and I currently live in Australia.

'God became man so that man may become God'

No Pete, that comment comes from St.Irenaeus of Lyon, one of the early church fathers. There is nothing anti-Christian about such a perspective, indeed it is a positively Christian perspective. It is expressed in Eastern Christianity, the purest and most balanced form of Christianity, by the...

    More radical than Thatcher?

Cameron's an interesting figure. I largely agree with Peter Hitchen's assessment of the "Cameron delusion", Cameron is not really much cop as a "conservative". If he was he'd roll back EU power over Britain and reestablish our borders with Europe. I'm a raging reactionary, more...

Gay rights debate triggers record flight from church

Basically modernists of any sort, I'm not even wild about the more extravagant sort of Calvinists, but yes those who support homosexuality as being equal to heterosexuality. One of the main reason I wish this is it contrary to traditional Christian thought and practice and I have never seen...

"How Religion Is Killing Our Most Vulnerable Youth"

The above sort of assumes the traditional Christian(and Islamic, Judaic, and Zoroastrian.) position is incorrect. The topic is complex but any so called "Bishop" that would throw out the universal proclamation of the key figures of his faith without defending it according to traditional...

I have no idea which religion would fit me the best

Actually Perennialists/Traditionalists believe one must practice a genuine, orthodox tradition.
