I'll remember not to use "Ultra-Orthodox" for Haredi Jews (I only recenly learnt what the term Haredi referred too, and I've been so use to callng them "Ultra-Orthodox", I'll have to break that habit).
Thanks again for the detailed information, I wasn't sure if Hasidic Jews were Haredi or...
Thanks for telling me :).
That's what I should do,thanks for the tip, and, I know how you feel as there are loads I keep having to remember I want to get.
I haven't read all the thread yet, but, I have read that, according to the early Christians (and one of the Church Fathers, Clement of Alexandria), there was a secret, oral, tradition to Christianity, a esoteric tradition that only were a few were ready for, so, maybe, Jesus let others write...
I wasn't sure if this is the exact place to put this so, please move it if you feel it should be elsewhere.
I was wondering, I know the Haredi are the Ultra-Orthodox Jews, but, are all Haredi Jews Hasidic, or are all Hasidic Jews part of the Ultra-Orthodox movement?, the reason I'm asking is...
Thankyou very much for all that information, and the link to your recommended reading. I really find this type of area interesting (it's why I want to get started on Joshua Trachtenberg 'Jewish Magic & Supersition') . BTW, if you don't mind me asking, how do Conservative Jews see the concept of...
I was just reading Levite's reply to me in the thread about Pantheism and Torah, and the 'Sefer Yetzirah' was brought up, as well as the 'Sefer Raziel', and I know they're mystical texts, but, they were/are used for magical purposes as well, and I was just wondering, what is the Jewish...
Thanks very much for informing me, I didn't know all that. I actually find the mysticial tradition of Judaism to be really interesting (that brings up another question I have, but, I'll start a new thread as I don't want to be too OT).
Thanks again.
Sorry if this sounds dumb, but, what's avodah zahara?. I'll check out 'Rethinking Judaism'. I liked some parts of Michaelson's book, but, not everything in it (I also read it before I really thought about exploring Judaism, so, I kind of had just some vague spiritual notions then).
Thanks...
Wasn't the 'Sefer Yetzirah' from around the 2nd Centuy CE, I thought I remember reading it was widely used by various Jewish mystics and magicians/sorcerers from that time?.
I don't think this is evidence from the Torah for Pantheism, but, you might be interested in reading 'Everything is God: TheRadical Path of Nondual Judaism' by Jay Michaelson, I read it a couple of months ago, and it seemed quite interesting. I'm not sure how well known the author is, or how...
Thanks, I'm a bit confused by what constitutes idolatry. Although I have another question, and, again, sorry if it's OT, but, how would beings or entities like the deities/Devas of Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism, or the gods that many Neo-Pagans worship be seen in Judaism?.
I can't remember...
Thanks for that free ebook, it looks interesting.
I have a question about Noachides, and, I hope it's ok to ask in this thread (if not please feel free to seperate this into another thread, and sorry for getting OT), but, I know that the Noachides observe 7 laws, like against idolatry, not...
