11 year old girl facing death penalty for "blasphemy"

Bismillah

What about the mob and other mobs like them?
They are savages and unfortunately there is a high degree of volatility within Pakistan's largely poorly educated and low income class. This isn't anything new within history they are immune because they rejet simple and clear cut edict religion binds together only at the whim of the person himself otherwise it has no feasible means of forcing people to comply, it is the people themselves who need to change in this situation.

There is no punishment mentioned in Quran for blasphemy in this world; the punishment if any will be in the hereafter.

However, the girl did nothing blasphemous, in my opinion.

I wish I had an explanation for all these horrible actions, but I don't. Tribalism, lack of education, mental illness, cultural and religious ignorance...none of it excuses this complete lack of respect for human life.

I give up trying to figure these things out.

The reason my friend is because competition for survival brings out the absolute worst in our nature. Warring tribes leads to warring cultures. Is what is being done there any worse than children massacring their class mates in America, the police state of England, or any other culture with its viciousness and oppression over itself and it's neighbors?

Mankind is not meant to compete for survival, but rather to cooperate. This is why tribes, kingdoms, and nations were formed. To cooperate as a larger body.

Now these Giants are warring with each other at the cost of the individuals enjoyment of life.

When the whole world unites as a people in the spirit of cooperation, each individual being granted equal enjoyment of their life, then will these things cease.

For now, you are divided up by these imaginary bodies called tribes, kingdoms, and Nations.

As my brother Jimi Hendrix put it, "When the power of love is greater than the love of power, then the world will know peace."

With Love,

Your Brother

I notice some of risk factors for violent oppression:
- Religions which dwell strongly upon dogma with a violent component
- Strong tribal culture
- Limited discourse with outsiders
- History of wars on home turf
A single factor poses a low risk, but combine a few, & we see rampant carnage.

Let us take this into consideration. What of the clerics who incite violence and destruction of property? Or so called "Alim" who are supposed scholars of the faith. Would you too consider them uneducated?

Like my comment toward Bismillah, what about those who profess a profound knowledge of Islam such as an alim, or an Imam? I am not so much as concerned with the people but the local leaders who may incite violence.

I worry about the imams and alims as well. Many of them were miseducated from the beginning, and the cycle continues...

agreed. change has to happen within that region. outside attempts at persuading people have proven to be futile. and that can also be said for just about anything

Agree, change has to come from within its people.

Imam arrested in Pakistan blasphemy case - thestar.com

Most unfortunate.

“A time shall most surely will come upon my people when
Islam shall be left only in name. The Qur’an will be read
by a way of mere ceremony and nobody will act upon it.
Mosques no doubt there will be many, but they no longer
will be the source of light and guidance. The Ulama will
be the worst creatures under the sun; all mischief will
emanate from them and the chastisement of God will come
down upon their heads.” (Kanz-al-Ummal, vol. 6, p. 49)

“My people shall be seized with consternation: they will,
then, make for their ulama. But they shall find that their
ulama have became apes and swines.” (Ibid., vol. 7, p. 190)

“(At that time) people rolling in riches shall be many; but
those well-versed in the Law of Islam, few and far
between. The sermon-grinders in the mosques shall be
cunning and crafty, and the reciters of the Qur’an shall be
deceitful dissemblers. They shall turn their faces away
from Religion and expound on matters temporal. They
shall devour the world as the fire consumes fuel. But,
remember that Hell shall be the abode of these people, for
into that torturous place the cruel and the unjust have ever
been cast.” (ibid., vol. 5, p. 217)

Pakistan is in a terrible state. The Holy Prophet (saw) prophesied that in this age Islam would be practised by many only in name.

Conformity is a strong trait in humans. Most people are just followers waiting to see what their fellows and those in authority want from them. In a society were religous zeal and violence are common what else do you expect? Pakistan does not stike me as an ordered and civilized country.

Not to mention people using the harsh punishments for their own gain, which I suspect was the case. Most likely, she offended someone, somehow, so they used this to try to get rid of her and her family.

And those poor people whose houses were burnt... :(

Such ignorance really is just as bad as the ignorance in the news story. We are not dealing with Islam here. We are dealing with intolerant individuals who will hide behind whatever BS in order to force their rules.

Does anyone think that it is simply a mere coincidence this girl is from a Christian family? Of course it isn't. She is seen as a stranger, an outsider (much like you seem to see Islam) and that scares people. So they find any stupid reason to attack based on their ignorance and intolerance. It is simply nothing more than drawing lines between us and them, and really that never works out.

Yes i agree, and i believe as well when the religion claiming to be christian burned human beings alive for heresy or witchhunts, etc proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that they do not know God or his son. And since that is the case then the only one who in reality owns and operates those religions is satan, by transforming into an angel of light, misleading 99% of all mankind as he has always done for the most part. And if one thinks a branch off of those religions belongs to God they need to step back and take a good look. especially when the wars of hatred arise and they are told it is okay to stand on both sides and kill each other. ( the rev war, the civil war, ww1,ww2,the spanish american war, the war of 1812)-- their bloodguilt has amassed to the heavens. And if a similar war occurred today it would happen again. *Edit*

Wait until the middle class is destroyed in America, and all that remain are the poor and the rich. Then this sort of thing will return even here. People are everywhere the same, and without a middle class, America will know its persecutions and religious wars too.

Such as? These laws have become notorious as means for targeting minorities and settling private vendettas. I see terms thrown around such as Imam or Mullah but often the only religious backing these men have among their illiterate congregation is the fact that they know parts of the Qur'an by heart in a language they do not understand.

Some should know better.

Alas, that's not always the case.

They (mullahs, imams, ulama, scholars, clerics) should be better educated than the average believers (Muslims). They should have higher standard, but they also should know better, and see that what they are doing (inciting mobs against some innocents, and in this case, the girl) are wrong.
