It's called acting. Anyone and everyone who cares needs to reconsider their priorities and get a life.
Ariel is fake. Get over it. It's like the new Weenie the Pooh movie. No one owns the character, there are no laws saying he can't be a psychotic killer, so if you don't like then don't watch. That old "change the channel" thing.

This is the first that I have heard of that movie. I wondered how they got around the Disney trademark. It turns out that Disney does not own the copywrite to the original story:

Public-Domain Winnie the Pooh Stars in New Slasher Film

Oh noes!! This could hurt Disney's bottom line. What are we ever going to do?

Okay, so I’m just going to go use AI to convert the black Ariel to a ginger. Wait, that’s been done and the people who did it both got banned from a social platform. Why? Who knows. Just a fictional character, right? Right?!

Go get a stereotyped male job if you want more pay. That's how that one works. "Pink collar" jobs, for both men and women but more frequently held by women, just don't pay as well as fields dominated by men.
Do get your stuff straight before launching into yet another baseless rant.
I don’t even believe in the pay gap. I was just asking a question. Chill.

Probably because it's racist. It's no different than when I was a little kid pre-school and one day we colored a picture of a guy driving an ice cream truck. I colored him in brown. I took it home, showed my mom and she tried scribbling over it with a white crayon. She said it looked at he had ice cream all over his face. I was utterly convinced (I was three or four at the time) she had never seen a black person before and proceeded to tell her some people really are that color.
People who care about this stuff just really need to get over themselves and change the channel. It's a character. It's fiction. That stuff changes.

Has anyone threw this big of a fit, ever, over the probability that Beowulf predates Christianity and he started off as a boastful, headstrong Norse Danish warrior before he was made Christian? Nope. Few people even care.

Why is it racist? You just said Ariel is fake. Her skin color doesn’t mean anything. Right? Why is it racist to turn her skin and facial details back to what they were for her animated counterpart? Explain this.

I am just so shocked that people are so obsessed with her skin colour and completely ignoring the fact that Ariel is trans.

Why Ariel from 'The Little Mermaid' Is an Overlooked Trans Icon

“…there's another Disney icon whose significance to a marginalized group isn't getting its due: The Little Mermaid's Ariel, who has an under-appreciated trans message. Here, the reasons she's a more important icon now than ever—and why we should start looking at her differently.

Think about it. Ariel feels trapped in a body that's foreign to her. She'd like to replace a prominent appendage (her fins) with something that feels more "right" (legs). She is all but disowned by her biased father, and misunderstood by her beautiful, traditionally feminine sisters. She collects artifacts that represent the life she'd rather be living. She surrounds herself with friends who are also considered outcasts. She's repressed by the expectations placed on her, and oppressed when she lashes out against them.“

Please, freak out about that for a while. At least it would be more interesting.

To be so stuck on her being portrayed in certain way to point you make the effort to change that, it's racist because you are changing the race of the character.
Think of it like a comic book. There's a bunch of different Spidermans and Deadpools and Wolverines and Xaviers and so on. And these characters, while having the same name and similar characters and abilities, actually aren't the same character.
Or like Captain Kirk. There is Shatner's Kirk, and then there are the Kirk's that others have played.
Dracula. Bell Lugosi Dracula, Christopher Lee Dracula, or a Dracula of the many others who have portrayed him.
It's not just racist, it is insulting to the person playing the character. It's that "erasure" thing you're so concerned about.

No answer to why its racist to use AI to change her skin color and facial details back to fit her animated counterpart? She’s just fictional after all. Why should it matter if someone uses AI this way?

It’s not racist and the people who did it, did it to demonstrate AIs capability.

You said it’s racist because you are changing the race of the character. Well, Ariel is white and ginger. It was racist to turn her black, wasn’t it?

Go ahead. I don’t care what you do. Make her plaid if you want.

“It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg”. You are the one who seems to be upset by this, not me.

I’m more irritated by the double standards. If it’s racist to change a character’s race, then it’s racist to make a white character black. That’s it.

You're irritated for the same reasons Christians are irritated by gay marriage. You think other people getting a slice of pie detracts from you, as you've traditionally controlled all of the pie. Black people and other minorities underrepresented in media so someone does a project with a black interpretation of a character? How dare it not cater to me specifically? I'm going to take the ball and run home with it.

Now I really do want to make the little mermaid a gay man's romance story, the way Hans would have been proud of.

Just no. She’s just a being who grew up as one species, confined to the ocean. She wanted to experience something new. It’s more like moving to another country than it is about transgenderism. Also, her father ended up just being over protective. He loved her a lot.

I’m going to be mean. Why don’t they just go make their own movies then? Wait! They did that already! How about they make their own channel? Oh! They did that too! Neah, let’s just turn every movie black and disallow white actors entirety! That should show those oppressive white people. Grow up!

So that is ok with you? If someone wants to change their body, remove part, add something, that is just like “moving to another country”. Very progressive of you.

Legal adults can do whatever they want, providing it’s not interfering with my life or a moderate level of moral decency in society. In other words, do what you want but don’t expect me to pay for it or validate it. Also, don’t cancel people because we don’t buy into your mental illness as anything but mental illness. Don’t call us ***phobes either.
