No...... Americans speak American. They've got pronunciation diarrhea and some very strange ideas about spelling.
So, if you ever want to have a conversation in English, try us Brit RF members. :D

If it seems weird it's only because you gave it to us!:p
And we both took what the Germans gave us, with it's nearly entirely consistent pronunciation and spelling, and messed that up along the way.

Yeah! Honest!
American spelling is different and American pronunciation is different. If we were cut off for a couple of hundred years then our languages would be quite different.

We Brits choose 'UK English' option for our computers so that they don't try to immerse us in American lingo. True. :)

I don't have the archaic British tools, but my laptop's word processor has a British dictionary that I'm constantly having to add to so "color" doesn't have a red squiggly line under it and the program insist I change it to "colour."

American: did you come here to die?

British: no, I came here yesterday (yus-tuh-die)!

:D

Anyways, both accents have their charms :). I personally think the British accent sounds hot on women more than the American accent. I also like the sound of seriousness the American accent can provide (Mortal Kombat's (the game) Shao Khan :D). Of course I mean the widely used dialects.

Nope, it was all there :)

I was just screwing around. Seriousness is the last thing to expect from me

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

Nah, it's cool.

Question for you: does arabic usage differ greatly between the various arabic speaking countries? If so, do they accuse each other of using it incorrectly? I'm just curious.

It is my mother tongue and I'm educated well in it.

I'd say it is good :)

Americans speak English too :D

Or it is American?

Hmm...

How much time have you spent in English speaking countries....or with English speaking people?

By the way, you are countering all my stereotypes of Saudi Arabians.:)

Two things I noticed

1st its not going to be long before Spanish is the number 1 spoken language in the United States

2nd when you talk of Canada being similar to the US I assume you have never been to the Quebec province. The Language there is French and the architecture as well in many areas.

I don't think that will happen as Spanish speakers are still a small minority relatively speaking. Even taking into account birth rates I doubt Spanish will eclipse English at any point. But it is the primary secondary language here.

Cool!

Formal Arabic is basically the same and there is almost no differences in how different Arabs use it, either in the choice of words or pronunciation. Differences do exist tho, but not noticeably nor controversially. It is the accents and dialects that differ, some times greatly as expected, but we don't usually accuse each other of being incorrect, we just sometimes act smart and give examples we know to each other, well either that or to present some sense of humor (erm, homour?!?!). It is also unfortunate that many Arabs take it offensive if said as a joke, so we respect that and don't say much. When we do, we make sure non of us is of that accent/dialect users.

That's at least the case in the community I live in of the Arab world, and how visitors/expats also act when they come here. Probably the educated ones are the most to come here of them. Not really sure how it is everywhere else far from where I live.

Generally, it is not an issue.

The Canadians say "Eh" a lot.

It sounds more like "ay" to me than "eh" :)

Hmm...

First of all, I take that as a compliment :D

I've never been to any English speaking country in my life.

As for speakers (people, not car stereo speakers, hehe), I've been seeking opportunities to practice my English with those who can, so at restaurants for example I speak English if I find the attendant a non Arab (many Filipinos and Indians here). I then joined the English department and learned some more of the English language elements, but unfortunately no good practice was achieved from there. Then finally after graduation I joined a construction company where they needed someone with English skills because so many employees there can't speak Arabic, and to coordinate with external correspondence (suppliers, sub-contractors, etc.) that most of the time is in English. Been there for 8 years now, and that boosted my English skills greatly. And well, almost non of the above related people were actually native English speakers so I almost always stood out :D. My love for technology, video games and cartoons (ehm) and interest in other cultures helped a lot too. I kinda find my self more open to foreigners than my own people, dunno why.

Yeah, generally speaking, I learned English with personal efforts :)

I understand having so may stereotypes against Saudis, or Arabs and Muslims in general. One of the reasons, a major one if not the main reason, is the language. Saudis are really really bad in the multi-language department. There are so many Saudis that are even more reasonable than me, but they fail to share this with the rest of the world simply because they can't, and sometimes don't wanna :(. If we look at my case, here I am, sharing stuff with all of you guys and some others actually said it to me before you did that they found things from me they didn't expect :)

Language is the way of which (or is it "with or in which"?) people communicate and understand each other (oh really, smart @$$) :D

2nd when you talk of Canada being similar to the US I assume you have never been to the Quebec province. The Language there is French and the architecture as well in many areas.

I personally am aware of that point. It is why I said "English-Canadians" :D.
