Just because they are legal doesn't necessarily mean they don't have professional cheats on their side.
And, the reason I haven't come back is because I actually have things to do besides come here, and because I've realized that this thread, and debating with you, is a complete waste of my time.
- Again from poker: mental challenge. Between good opponents, it has all the strategy of chess (another game involving deception, BTW).
Another compliment...you guys are too kind...
Ah, I see, sorryYou know, FFH, it isn't always about you.
We have to sacrifice posting as users sometimes because we're called away to do a job here.
I know it's the full moon and all, but...sheesh
I'm at a loss to understand how chess involves deception. All the pieces are visible. If someone doesn't spot what you're up to, that's not trickery, it's their lack of skill.
Yeah, good pointCasinos have all the weight on their side and every dollar that crosses their hands leaves its nickel behind.
If a casino DID cheat and got caught they would lose their license and all those tens and hundreds of millions of dollars they never needed to cheat to get.

Scott
Gambling is heavily regulated and inspected. Why would a "legal" casino be any different ???? Much much worse in my opinon.
Corruption is found in "legal" businesses, so why not in the gambling industry ???
Even if you can see every possibility ten moves ahead, you can't necessarily prepare for all of them. Your opponent's strategy will be based at least in part on what he thinks you will do, so misdirection in this regard can be very useful.I'm at a loss to understand how chess involves deception. Worrying about that cheating in amateur poker games might imply that casinos cheat is very much like worrying that people who doesn't wash their hands after handling raw meat at home might imply that food producers have unsafe food handling practices.

OTOH, I'm not that good a chess player, and when I do play, I tend to play against other not-so-good chess players.
Misdirection is a form of deception, and as they say, "if you defend everywhere, you defend nowhere," or as Sun Tzu put it slightly more eloquently:It's nopt deception, it's about preparation, whoever prepares thier pieces in the best defesive and offensive pattern regarding the movements of thier opponent will win, there is no deception, misdirection maybe, but that is only if the opponent doesn't look at the entire picture. people get blind and stop thinking ahead only focusing on one part of the board.
16. The spot where we intend to fight must not be
made known; for then the enemy will have to prepare
against a possible attack at several different points;
and his forces being thus distributed in many directions,
the numbers we shall have to face at any given point will
be proportionately few.
17. For should the enemy strengthen his van,
he will weaken his rear; should he strengthen his rear,
he will weaken his van; should he strengthen his left,
he will weaken his right; should he strengthen his right,
he will weaken his left. If he sends reinforcements everywhere,
he will everywhere be weak.
18. Numerical weakness comes from having to prepare
against possible attacks; numerical strength, from compelling
our adversary to make these preparations against us.
What I'm wondering about is why the mental leap "if gambling's evil, then _____ is evil" would be valid for playing cards, but not for dice, horses, professional sports, felt, or anything else that, like cards, is also used for both gambling and non-gambling purposes.I still don't understand how something that is fun and harms no one can be evil? Also FFH you never answered my question earlier. You seem to think gambling is evil. Gambling is paying for entertainment. Is your T.V evil? Or is a book evil? They are both forms of entertainment that you pay for.

It depends on if you gain something of eternal value from the activity your participating in..Cess-

Is what you're watching or listening to or doing going to bring you eternal happiness or just a temporary thrill..
Sure gambling is a rush, as are a lot of things, but will they bring lasting joy into your life ????
