a charging grizzly might be one of the few situations where an AR-15 style assault rifle might actually be called for...
Ist of all, an assault rifle requires a very difficult
to get license, & $10,000 fee. Better to just buy
a semi-auto civilian version.
But if you do, get something bigger than a
"mouse gun" (ie, 223 / 5.56). Get 308 / 7.62.
You want a fast heavy bullet for the likes of
a charging @Wu Wei.

If it ever does, it's not the time to come up with a plan. Too late.

"His plan doesn’t involve killing anyone" <> "he doesn't have a plan."

Don't they care about homes that might have prescription drugs, or money, or firearms, or electronics that can be sold, or tools that can be pawned, or maybe even a wife or daughter who can be sexually abused, or at least an ATM card or credit card that could be used to access the homeowner's money, or personal information that can be used to steal someone's ID?
It doesn't come up.

One thing that helps: even though there are plenty of guns (I'm in a rural area with plenty of hunters), they're generally securely stored.

AR-style rifles are prohibited in Canada.

And all firearms are prohibited in national parks, except for ones being transported through in a vehicle (we have highways through parks) or in a private residence (some of our parks have private homes).

Lever action rifle in 50-110 would be nice.
But in 45-70 is more practical.
My cousin use to live in bear country, always carried a Wetherby rifle in the woods, something equivalent to a 460… which is pretty much an elephant gun.

The 460 Weatherby is overkill.
But if your cousin can handle the recoil,
it would be a fell weapon against bears.
Against anything, even lawyers.

Okay, I admit, going outside without a gun where grizzlies are is nuts. How many grizzlies are there in Chicago or Jacksonville though?
They weren’t killed in Chicago or Jacksonville. For that matter I am fairly certain there are few if any who carry bear spray in Chicago or Jacksonville

He was pretty happy with it. But that was many years ago. Don’t think he ever used it against lawyers though. Although he did once consider using against his neighbors silly annoying useless chrome ball on a pedestal lawn ornament once…. But he never did

My sister had around 5 grizzlies roaming around in her back yard and took photos.

Of course, she lives in Alaska.

Shame. Canada used to be a gun rights country like the US.

I handled one. Elephant guns are heavy like hell. Forgot the model , but the barrel was octagon shaped.

It still is a gun rights country.
Only with government permission now.

I remember awhile back when in Toronto when that black bear was sighted, that even the game control officer had to go through a fair amount of red tape to procure a weapon.

Pfffttttt! 30/06. The .308 magnum. Much better, longer range, more energy at target.

I love hearing Americans talk about their bang bangs

Gun ownership is very alien to me

It is a most peculiar custom

As a Canadian, reading this makes me want to stay north of the border. Jesus man, who needs a gun to go outdoors?

Anyone who doesn't want to get eaten but a mountain lion/bear? At least where I am.

Edit: While walking a trail here I had a mountain lion run up on my wife and I. Thankfully it was a juvenile and spooked easy.
