 I thought he did alright. I wouldn't call him a wooden puppet. Who's Michelle Rodriguez?

He was good enough to get the story across. Like I said: that's all I ask for in a movie like this.

michelle rodriguez (i think thats her name, i might be very wrong:p) was the hispanic woman flying them around everywhere, shes been in a bunch of other crap movies (not that avatar was "crap" just not 1 billion dollars good.

but yea, i thought the main guy was simply terrible. but then again who couldnt have gotten the story across? they were only beating you over the head with it. THEY ARE BLUE SPACE INDIANS & THEY ARE GOOD. THE PLANET IS ACTUALLY FULLY SENTIENT & CUTTING DOWN TREES IS EVIL!!!!!!!

did anyone else notice this "gratuitous cleavage" that morris keeps talking about?

maybe im the only one?:p tho it really only happened once, it just seemed extremely out of place, when she was rescuing them from the jail thingy.

Pocahontas was trash! What're you talking about?! The only good thing about it was the incredible music.

I just ment with respects to the similar story thread, man, woman from nature, eyes opened and so on

dont read to much into it lol

I thought it was a great movie, all told.

I didn't like Trudy's death, though. I so wanted her to ram the lead ship before she got shot down.

I went to see this movie with no knowledge of what it was about whatsoever. Friends wanted to see it, so I went.

The political agenda of the movie was so strong and so silly, that I had a hard time not laughing at parts that were supposed to be serious. I mean the movie was anti-human race, anti-white, anti-america, anti-business, anti-military, compares the treatment of the aliens to american indian treatment, criticizes the war on terror, compares what the goofy military guy and his buddies are doing to what we humans are doing to planet earth, and at one point I could swear that the military dude was doing a GWB impersonation.

If I can ignore all of that, I did enjoy the special affects. I also thought the alien race (what are they called?) was fascinating.

I would have liked the movie much better if the villans would have not been so corny and if the liberal agenda was not so hilariously present.

Somebody said that it's a combination of FernGully and Braveheart.

I didn't notice any cleavage, and I thought her character was awesome. Guess I was too focused on the story.

Yeah. So? Good vs. Evil. It's been a while since there's been a movie like that. Is there a problem with beating us over the head with a story? Isn't that what you're supposed to do?

I was too focused on what was going on to notice, I guess. I don't even remember any cleavage in the movie.

The film was actually closer to Ferngully, another POS cartoon, than Pocahontas.

Nobody ever said that the "sky people" were humans from earth. :angel2:

Besides, I think the comparison is a somewhat fair one, if not somewhat of an exaggeration. I didn't think the main villain was goofy. I thought he was an awesome villain.

Not to mention, James Cameron has done anti-corporate things in his films before. Remember Aliens? ;)

It could be that we have different preferences in our movies.

To each their own.

No, I haven't seen that one, yet, though I want to. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Ya, I've seen District 9, great movie but be warned the shaky 'hand-held documentary camera' gives some people headaches, if you're prone to that. Everyone but me had a headache in my family.

Ah never seen it i dont think.
Guess theres always these similarities between films, rarely is something so completely new.

Everything's already been done before. It's all just retelling the same story.

Therefore, the important thing isn't telling an original story, but doing original things with it. I will admit: as much as I love Avatar, it wasn't really anything new, except for the fact that it was better than mediocre. With one exception, all films that followed this story have either sucked or was mediocre. (The exception being Princess Mononoke.)

Oh, and if you've never seen Ferngully, all you need to know is contained within the video review of it by the Nostalgia Critic.

I loved this movie. I think what I loved the most was the world that was created for it. Not only was it gorgeous, but I like how everything was connected with each other. The plot was very basic, and has been overdone, but IMO, it was told much better this time with a deeper level of character development. The acting was also great, which for me bad acting will kill a movie quicker than anything (Lakeview Terrace for example. Samuel L. Jackson was great, but the other two ruined what could have been a good movie.) I also really liked how women played a vital role in this movie.
But, I loved this movie. I'm gonna go and see the 3D version this weekend. Can't wait for it to come out on DVD (might even save up for a Blu-ray player for this one). And I really can't wait for the sequel.
Can anyone link me to a site with some pictures of the scenery?

What are people's thought on the whole "white savior" aspect? I've heard some people complaining that it's racist that a white guy comes in and saves the natives, that it portrays a fantasy where the poor natives need to be saved by the great white man. Anyone have any thought on that?

I thought this movie was a bundle of cliches rehashed in an elegant way. It bored my 10 year old, excited my 15 year old, and made my wife think about Native Americans.

I think James Cameron is a master at tugging strings, and there is no shortage of strings in this one.

Personally, I enjoyed the low blow it gave the current American/Euro Agenda in the world. It is exactly the bravado that captures the spirit many believe about our actions in Iraq/Afghanistan.

Visually it was great, we chose to see the non-3D and I am glad.

I thought it more a "Custer's Last Stand" story. :)
