We live in an era where people are forever whinging about something, for no other reason than they live to be butthurt. Not only are they ignoring context but that he didn’t simply say “the n-word” he used an actual two-word term for a specific type of slave. One that’s found in the dictionary (see here, here, and here). It identifies a slave in a specific function (indoor) OR can be used as a pejorative. Taken in context, Maher used it in the former (i.e., fake-balking at the idea of working in the fields).
Also, I'll point out that blacks use it as a pejorative toward other blacks (implying an Uncle Tom, a sell-out) whereas “field (negro)” is seen as a compliment (one who remains true, defiant to what they are).
