Birth of Jesus in summer, according to Qur'an

Read through any of the ante-Nicean church fathers who debated this question, and they all agree that Jesus was probably born sometime in spring. All the evidence, as little as that may be, points in this direction. However, you are right in your last statement. There's no real way to answer this question, and it all comes down to conjecture.

Two brief requests:
  1. Drop the pretention. The overwhelming majority of the "ante-Nicean" [sic!] never addressed the issue.
  2. see post 29

O.k. that's some pretty good evidence. I'm inclined to believe something along these lines, then, unless someone else presents evidence to the contrary.

This is what is in the Qur’an by Marmaduke Pickthall, 19:22-26, on the birth of Jesus:
22 And she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a far place.
23 And the pangs of childbirth drove her unto the trunk of the palm-tree. She said: On, would that I had died ere this and had become a thing of naught, forgotten!
24 Then (one) cried unto her from below her, saying: Grieve not! Thy Lord hath placed a rivulet beneath thee,
25 And shake the trunk of the palm-tree toward thee, thou wilt cause ripe dates to fall upon thee.
26 So eat and drink and be consoled. And if thou meetest any mortal, say: Lo! I have vowed a fast unto the Beneficent, and may not speak this day to any mortal.

So Mary gave birth to Jesus during summer when the dates are ripe. Could anyone prove that Jesus was born in summer? Which date? The Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25, but this date does not agree with the account in the Holy Bible.

The dates would have had to be provided by God out of seson because Jesus was born in December according to the Bible which does give the month by way of arithmetic. Anyone knows that gestation takes nine months.

The shepherds in the fields is speculation. It was not a normal situation. They were there for the census but there was no room at the inn for anyone and certainly not animals.

We have little evidence, but it is said that those who believe even though they have not witnessed are indeed more blessed than those who have believed after witnessing!

Was Jesus born in winter—in December as what the Western churches believe or in January as what the Orthodox churches believe? Was Jesus born in summer as what is stated in the Qur’an?

A spirit, a holy spirit, THE Holy Spirit, told us that Jesus was born on May 23. A spring date. I first heard this date in 1983. When we connected to the Internet in 1999, that is 16 years later, I asked biblical scholars and calendar experts whether there is any ring of truth in this. No one believed. Some even laughed and said that I am crazy. So I embarked on my studies.

In 2003, I was able to prove that the crucifixion date of August 17 that He revealed which I also first heard in 1983, is true and correct. The year is 1 BC. Then I checked His birth date. In 2006, I was able to prove that it is also true and correct. The year—33 BC. Jesus was 32 solar years old when He died. You may check the studies that I made at http://aristean.org/crucifyidx.htm and http://aristean.org/birthmay23.htm. Please raise your questions and I will try to answer them.

A lot of Christian thinkers believe that Jesus was born in the summer. The Bible mentions that the shepherds were tending to their flocks.

“A lot of Christian thinkers”? Why is it that it is zero vote for summer, and for winter also, in “When was Yeshua born?”. All five votes say it is Other [than summer or winter].

As I have said, Jesus was born on May 23, a spring date. This date was revealed by no other than the Holy Spirit. A spring birth agrees with accounts in the Holy Bible. Did you know the year? It is 33 BC! It is not 1 BC or thereabout. You may check the study that I made, the results of which are in http://aristean.org/birthmay23.htm. If you have any questions, please raise them in this forum and we will discuss.

Jesus was NOT born in 1 BCE. He died in 1 BC.

Did you know that Jesus was born on May 23, 33 BC?

he died in 1bce. Hmmm. That means he died around the same time as Herod the Great... and he died before John the baptist started preaching. John the baptist was Jesus cousin... they were born 6 mths apart and do you know when John began preaching???

luke 3:3 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Ti‧be′ri‧us Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Ju‧de′a, and Herod was district ruler of Gal′i‧lee, but Philip his brother was district ruler of the country of It‧u‧rae′a and Trach‧o‧ni′tis, and Ly‧sa′ni‧as was district ruler of Ab‧i‧le′ne, 2 in the days of chief priest An′nas and of Ca′ia‧phas, God’s declaration came to John the son of Zech‧a‧ri′ah in the wilderness
Augustus died on August 17, 14 C.E. (Gregorian calendar), And the Roman Senate named Tiberius emperor on September 15 of the same year. His 15th year is 29ce.

Jesus came to John to be baptized and then Jesus began his own ministry. How did you come up with such dates??

@Pegg

You are assuming that Jesus was crucified in about 33 AD. But He was actually crucified and died in 1 BC. BC and AD assume that Jesus was born in 1 BC. In the new Aristean Perpetual Calendar, 1 BC would become year 0 when Jesus died. Before this would be called BCJ or Before Crucifixion of Jesus and after this would be called ADJ or After Death of Jesus. So the date May 23, 33 BC when Jesus was born would become May 23, 32 BCJ.

The point of reckoning is the crucifixion and death of Jesus and not His birth. So when Augustus Caesar died, it would be in 20 BCJ. It is also the start of the reign of Tiberius Caesar.

Herod the Great died in 33 BC. John the Baptist started preaching in 6 BC. John was born on November 18, 34 BC. He is six months older than Jesus who was born on May 23, 33 BC.

sorry you'll have to forgive my ignorance, but i've never heard of the new Aristean Perpetual Calendar and how is the year 'O' even counted as a year??? its not a number!

I think its best though to stick to the calendars in use during the time that Jesus lived if you want to get a more accurate date. Besides that, you should also stick to the scriptures because that is the record written by those who were actually there.

The point of reckoning is the crucifixion and death of Jesus and not His birth. So when Augustus Caesar died, it would be in 20 BCJ. It is also the start of the reign of Tiberius Caesar.

but where do you get that specific date from? Why 20 'BCJ' and what the heck is BCJ anyway

Herod the Great died in 33 BC. John the Baptist started preaching in 6 BC. John was born on November 18, 34 BC. He is six months older than Jesus who was born on May 23, 33 BC.

Why do you think Herod died in 33 BC???
Most historians place his death between 4BC - 1CE... what is the basis for 33BC??

Creating new calendars to try to make fictitious stories seem more plausible doesn't actually make it so.

God is capable of anything and so you can't say that it was summer because the dates were ripe. Allah (SWT) can bring forth ripe dates on the planet Pluto if He wants to.
