California wants to break free and form their own liberal utopia.

Why the California bashing? This is your second negative thread on Cali.

Have you visited it?

Stop watching Fox news. California is not perfect but I highly doubt it's as grossly bad as you think it is.

Only some of Californians want to secede and no one here calls it Utopia. So get some perspective for yourself.

The fact that people are leaving California in droves should provide a clue I think. I suppose it gets the less wealthy riff-raff out.

If California’s the future, why are so many leaving?

Well Californians screwed Oregon and now they are moving here with the liberal policies. Now I don't mind if you are leaving Kalifornia and moving here because you can't stand the politics of Kalifornia, but those that move here and bring their Kalifornia liberal polices with them I say the former Governor of Oregon, Tom McCall had it right.

You make it seem like territory defines beliefs...

I like you to think about that for just a moment.

That's great! And I'm not being sarcastic.

The main issue with California and keep in mind that I'm Californian, is that we are over poplated. Many of our issues stem from over population. So with so many people leaving, that's actually really good!

It seems you're getting replaced by wealthy New Yorkers over here where it's even too expensive for them to live here. Maybe I was a little harsh on California. It's cheaper than New York now.

Similar to how many people espouse this idea of "Hoosier values," as if everyone in Indiana is a humble Christian who thinks church attendance in and of itself is the morally right thing to do.

I'm for letting Texas break off. Hell, I'm for encouraging them.

As for California, I suspect in the end they'd have too much horse sense to secede. Now, Texas, that's another story.

In some ways it does.
Farmers, ranchers, lumbermen, miners and other like minded groups see things different than most of the people in high density population centers like San Francisco, and Los Angles.

For Texas it s the other end of a herd of long horn steers.

Yeah. And people living in the middle of a bunch of farm land also often tend to view things differently from other people who live in the middle of a bunch of farm land. Not everyone here is the morally uptight Christian, even that is the image of "Hoosiers" that people like Pence would have the rest of America believe.

One of the most damning things I've ever heard about Texas was told to me by a man who'd gone there when young, made millions in Texas real estate, and then left the State behind him.

I grew up with the guy and his family hovered right on the Federal poverty line all during our childhood together, but he got a good university education back when tuition was affordable and student grants and loans made it realistic for poor people. After graduation, he took his MBA with him to Texas, and -- as I said -- made his fortune.

His attitude towards Texas changed when his sons were born.

He told me, "I looked at the Texas education system and realized how poor it was. I didn't want to handicap my kids when it came time for them to compete in a global economy."

Consequently, he moved to another state and relocated in the finest school district of that state. Nowadays, he calls it one of the best decisions he's made.

Mind you, he's never had anything against the people of Texas, just that he didn't think the public -- or even the private -- education there would give his kids the advantages they needed. He votes Republican too, so this isn't an ideological issue with him.

I think they'll be fine if they do secede.
"In terms of annual GDP, California would rank sixth worldwide if it were a separate nation."
That's pretty good for a nation California's size.
I read recently that we're now up to 5th.

But as to the Fox headline, they should stop living in fantasy land and learn about journalism.

Kalifornia
I should have written the Faux extremist right-wing diaper-filled idiot donny official propaganda sewage loving media outlet.

Clearly those silly voters have never known the pleasures of being isolated and remote from the world, deep in the woods up upon a mountain.
I could never live far from civilization.
You know I'm such a people person.
And I need restaurant variety.

Liberals (some) seem to really hate the south, Texas, & rural folk.

This is unreasonable.

I am a rural person (farm boy), live in North Carolina, and I will not of course generalize about all Texans, but unfortunately like much of the South it has a well earned bad reputation.

I searched for a list of the best cities to live in, & found....
The 50 best places to live in America for 2018
Of course, some people would rank them differently . . .
Austin TX ranks #1.

I like Austin, Texas, but it s an green and blue gem in darkness and commercial materialism of the Conservative South. I really like the culture and music scene of Austin.
