Can a literal Genesis creation story really hold up?

Now we can start to have a real debate.

Would you like to learn why we have the legends in scripture we do? How the books were created and how they evolved into their current state?

How the books were created? Come on outhouse, from your perspective?

I cannot expect to hear any of those books as inspired by God, am I right?

Of course, the number of authors with diverse personalities and dubious characters to write with inspiration from God?

Nah, that could never happen, right? I mean ...after all...if there is no God, then no inspiration and thus......just plain old stories made up by writers of great imagination.

There is only one way to make them all come alive, and I mean only one way....and that is by faith.

I don't know about you, but I would place my life's existence on that story, simply by faith alone.
Once again, faith alone proves nothing. It is nothing more than wishful thinking, which is absolutely fine. I hope for an afterlife as well, I just realize that it is not very likely.

If that's the case, why even live on earth at all? Spare me the sufferings, pain, trials and tribulations, loss of loved ones, wars, evil trappings, the dangers of falling prey the vanities of this world, ruining my life and others lives? Why put up with all this?
To me, the unlikelihood of an afterlife actually makes me feel better about this life I am given. It makes me want to live life to the fullest while I can, rather than sitting around passively waiting for the next life, which may or may not even exist.

All for naught?

It would have been better if I would had never been born!

But thank be God, who despite all that, He gives me hope, comforts me through all that and teaches me what being good means with rewards and last of all, gives me something to live for, adding worth to my soul for this life's existence and the rewards of a continuance of life without the vanities of earth life, but peace and love forever more.
Are you saying that the irreligious have nothing to live for? We can do good deeds to others as well, even without having a god forcing us to do it under penalty of eternal damnation. Some people just like to do things simply out of the kindness of their heart. I want to my legacy to live on through the deeds that I did while I was here on Earth.

Tell me, if someone who is down in the dumps of life, homeless, unloved, broke, sick, hated, cursed upon would not want hope of a better world?

Tell him that there is no hope of life after this one, tell him that this is all there is.
What do you think his reaction to that would be? Why not end it?

Blessings, AJ
Which is why it is important that we, as a people, try and make lives better for ourselves and for others while we are here on this Earth, instead of sitting around and just hoping it gets better.

AJ brother. We were doing so well for a brief moment.

It is not from "MY" perspective. It is from a historical reality taught in every credible college around the world as REAL history and as advanced learned.

Are you not interested in truth?

No.

You do not understand.

Only men wrote the books, and you would also need to define the word inspired.

What if inspired was having the thought of their deity in their minds while trying to create a better people through theology?

We do not have to prove god exist to say his positive nature was not inspired through men.

The word "only" is the problem. That word separates the divine from the physical
when it comes to the word "inspiration".

Men wrote in their own understanding, with their limited knowledge as inspired by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

How could so many writers at different time spans write in harmony, one with another concerning the spiritual workings of God in the lives of mankind, if not inspired to do so?

When I read the bible I see a common theme throughout all of them, be it the old testament or the new, the spiritual workings of God in concert with the crucifixion of Jesus and the outcome of it all.

Any one else reading the bible without desires to find God in it all will only take out the reality of the stories as either false, made up or simply, not credit worthy.

The difference between seeing the spiritual sight of it and seeing only what the stories portray is faith in God.

That is why, you and I can not come to terms in understanding both sides.

You can not understand my spiritual view of all of it, yet I can understand your scientific view of it.

Your view demands physical proof as truth where as mine, acceptance, by faith the spiritual nature of them all as truth.

I have absolutely no problem with your choice of views, based on my belief that whether you believe in God, via the stories, or not, God owns your soul as well as mine.

That is the beauty of our creation. The freedom to choose our own beliefs without any reciprocation of eternal condemnation.

That is the whole point in the coming of Jesus and that was to rectify the condition created by the creation of the human soul. A living soul created as a god in the material world and within a time span of time.

You, and I shall recognize each other in the here after by our own name because of our living souls, in a spiritual manner, not in the physical.

1Co_15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

Joh_14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

What is the truth? Ye ask?

Joh_18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

Did not get an answer, why? Because Pilate could not see the truth. He was aware of something troubling, but could not see the reasoning.

There are to many errors and contradictions, this would indicate a serious lack of itelligence on who ever was doing the inspiring.

The books seem to be mans creation, and nothing more.

The holy spirit in your context is more of a later christian construction, is it not different then the OT usage?

As it stands now genesis does not hold up literally. YEC have no evidence to support their position, nor have they been able to provide any to support their position.

I for one don't fit that rebuttal.

I believe in evolution.
I believe God did it.

Apparently we will go all the way back to the start of this thread.

Genesis reads well enough.

It can be read as is.

Your history book is of no use here.

I guess we came to the point where division has always been the issue from the beginning of human kind.

A divorce...if you will between heaven and earth.
The earth says, we evolved.
Heaven says, God created us.

Distinctly different as in two opposites?

A divorce is evident from the get go when heaven kicked earth out of the paradise garden.

Yes, heaven did the kicking out. Why? Because earth took on a life of its own upon having the ability to reason, to think of itself as it's own creation.

Earth chose a different husband....not heaven.

Of course....some of you may not know that that was a consequence of the creation process that earth would become independent of heaven, thus severing all ties to heaven.

Enter. The other tree. A new heavenly husband, one with mercy, compassion and forgiveness for earth.

A new heaven that would redeem the independent ways of earth himself and win earths soul from a devastating divorce to new life.

This time, a life that will never be terminated....as was the former.

That is the story as I see it and I'm sticking to it.

Except for the day and night. Obviously that's not literal.

Agreed?

What we see here is mythology.

Mythology influenced by previous mythology.

Let me ask you a question

Exactly when did this all happen, what date exactly???
